I guess I'm a piker. For my rifles, I don't load that much in advance. 40-50 rounds is a pretty good supply for my big game rifles, and more for my handguns. But I do keep enough components on hand that I can ignore shortages that last for a year or less.

I don't keep a lot of rifle ammo handy. I do have the components to produce 1000 cartridges for every rifle I own though. Maybe I'm just lazy as I only produce what I need.

All my rifles are bolt action for hunting so I don't need a lot. Someone with military rifles will probably have lots more then me on hand.

Woops. I didn't include .22lr in my total. It is a big oversight seeing as I only own rifles in .22lr, .30-06, and .300wm. My .22lr stash is at least 2x as large as my .30-06 which is about 15x as large as my loaded .300wm.

My next rifle purchase will likely be in 5.56/.223 and then I'll start stockpiling ammo for that one.

I like to keep enough so that if I suddenly want to take up to a week long training class I have the ammo on hand. Another good barometer for me is that I like to keep about a year supply on hand so that I'm not impacted by any unforeseen shortages. If there's a crisis I'm covered for all realistic situations. Once I've built up this inventory, I tend to buy a few boxes either just before or after I go shooting to keep the inventory ammounts level. If there is a great deal out there, I will buy in bulk.

Right now I have bits for roughly 3000 rounds of .223. That should be more than enough for the summer season. But I'd like to have 5000 on hand, just seems like a good round number to me. New dies will be here on Sat... can't wait.

I have about 1,700 rounds of rifle ammo. Mostly because a case of 880 rounds of 7.62x54R is only about $140.
