Hunting deer with a howitzer…

Not something I would have done but it does show the lethality of canister shot. Speaking of check out this live fire video of an original 12 pound Napoleon firing canister. You can skip to 3:53 for the firing. Love that bell tone from the bronze barrel.

Definitely not legal in Missouri. Ethically speaking tho, the deer most likely bleed out faster( didn't read the whole article) so in reality it might have been a faster harvest. That being said I wouldn't do that my hunt pack is already heavy enough lol

I didn't watch the video, but I'm not in favor of killing to get a laugh or prove my marksmanship. I did some of that when I was younger and now regret it.
I shot a Blue Jay with a sling shot when I was 7 or 8 and watch it suffer, felt very Sad!

then when we had BB guns, my dad said, if you shoot anything, you better eat it. So that what me and my brother did. birds, rabbits, fish… starts a fire right there and roast it!

Way illegal here in Idaho. From the Idaho Big Game 2022 Seasons & Rules book:
“In any hunt, including any-weapon seasons, it is unlawful to pursue or kill big game animals: With any firearm that, in combination with a scope, sling and/or any attachments, weighs more than 16 pounds.” ;)

that regulation was because of lazy hunters used bench rest .50 BMG and shooting from a million yards away.

I watched a pig hunt with a 50, and I can't honestly say where you draw the line. Is a 30-378 Weatherby much different. .
it’s the range they were shooting from and the .50 BMG retains tons of energy at say 1,000 yards. Outfitters would cater to the lazy big gamers by setting up a bench and rifle and letting them have party time.

Not to mention, your not proving much marksmanship waiting to light off, until the deer get to the feed.

I’ll still do it to pigs though, if I ever finish mine but I’d poison them, if I knew it wouldn’t harm anything else after it killed them…

it’s a shame people can’t sell or process wild hog for ham or BBQ. Wild Hog taste good and organic and natural

The author says "Although the holes look big, there was very little extended meat damage."
with only 6 hits, the picture does look like there was not really excessive meat damage.
But there definitely could have been

You can, here is the list in Texas.

It’s simply not possible to get a livestock trailer to most of the locations I have the best results from but I have purposely setup where I could load them. Trigger the trap.

Leave them in all night and setup a 2x12 wired to the trap so they couldn’t run under the trailer when I back up and lift the gate to load them.

Only to call 3 within driving distance and find one not open, another not taking anything under 110 lbs and another that would take the little ones if you gave them to them and would give $0.05/lb for anything over 110lbs. I probably would have done that if it had not been a 2 hour drive, one way. So they became buzzard food at that point.

At least I called first before I wasted my time and couldn’t even cover the fuel to haul them there.

I can say this, if any of them would come get them, they could have them for free.
