I almost had to fire yesterday

So you saw him reaching for something under the seat of his jeep and you didn't drop the hammer? I think I would've.

So you saw him reaching for something under the seat of his jeep and you didn't drop the hammer? I think I would've.

And in this case it turns out it WAS a gun since he was arrested for it.

This was moments away from a much worse ending.

I'd really rethink the answering the door that time of night and those of you suggesting that it's no big deal should also give some thought to that.

This guy was armed, he just left the gun in his vehicle for the initial attempt.

What if he hadn't? Answering the door and facing an armed drunk sends things downhill in a hurry.

The best suggestion I've heard so far is a forceful verbal questioning while standing in a position NOT directly on the other side of the door from whoever is knocking.

I'm lucky he didn't draw, I would hate to lose that gun to an evidence room.

I hope that thought never crossed your mind while in the moment, that kind of thing can get you killed.
Who cares, it's a gun. They are disposable, your life is not.

Last night it was around 2:30, I was up getting a glass of water, I heard a car door slam.

How opportune.

I live by an intersection out in the country down one road its a drunks paradise . Well I went back to my Bedroom and grabbed my Sig p220 and told the wife to grab her .357 229 if she heard shots . I heard a knock on my front door grabbing another mag ,

What? You, your wife and an extra mag? Was this the Zombie Drunk from hell?

I answered the door. "Get the ---- out of my way , I'm going to kill her" was the first thing the guy said.

And...that would have been the last thing the guy said to me. I woud have at least done a Yosemite-Freakin' Sam into the porch and then put the gun on his nose. And so would most anyone else threatened with "Kill" at 2:30 AM in the morn.

I found out his ex-girl friend used to live at our house. We just bought the place I calmly explained. He then went to his jeep and put his hand under his seat

So...after threatened to kille this "Her", you then engaged this drunk and potentially violent scumbag in conversation - when you could have just "laid down the rules" and called the cops. You are not Yosemite Sam. You are not smart.

. I then revealed my 220 and danced the laser grips on his door needless to say the police were called...

Jeez...those lazers are just magic aren't they?

and they picked him up for harassement dui and illegaly concealling a firearm, that he was to drunk to pull out on me. I'm lucky he didn't draw, I would hate to lose that gun to an evidence room.

You are dreaming.

NASCAR_MAN, seems to me like you are starved for attention. Every reply I've ever read by you is the most outrageous one in the entire thread. You are a habitual OP basher. What is with you? You have no clue whether or not this man is telling the truth. Maybe he is, maybe he is not. Who cares. Someone may be able to learn something from this thread with the comments of other folks. Chill out man.

Yeah I probaly should've answered through the door and i know i did some things wrong but i'd didn't claim i was perfect. And lean wolf i live in MI

OK, I'll jump on the "you shouldn't have answered the door" bandwagon, but that being said and under a stressful situation I think you did OK.

Easy to armchair quarterback these situations when you're not jacked up on adrenalin.

Unlike you…I’m not from the “Peoples Republic of Illinois”, and I make no apologies for being very protective of my family. I mean, if anyone threatened someone in my house at 2:30 AM the “Yosemite Sam” response is a measured one – learned from older age and wisdom (I am just hoping to shock, not harm). As a Younger Man, I would have just stuck the gun in the guys face and told him to “Lay down on the Ground”. If he didn’t…then “Oh Well…that’s his problem – and God’s”.

You have no clue whether or not this man is telling the truth. Maybe he is, maybe he is not. Who cares.

What? You don’t care if what’s posted is the truth? The truth has a certain Symmetry about it – both factually, logically and emotionally. As a result, I just can’t see a guy what this dud did after someone in the house was threatened at 2:30 AM. It makes no sense.

Someone may be able to learn something from this thread with the comments of other folks. Chill out man.

How…if the truth is not posted – you said you may not care? And what have they learned…the wrong thing?

Has anyone besides me noticed that there seems to be this freaking rash of "I almost had to shoot" type of postings lately? With some of the most creative, yet strangely similar, circumstances involved.

They frequently read like Jerry Ahern wannabe short stories.
