I am so happy my state got an F+ :D

This one really cracks me up:
"No state requirement that there be a waiting period for gun sales beyond the "instant check" in federal law. Police are not given any additional time to run a criminal background check to make sure the gun buyer is not prohibited from acquiring firearms. There is no "cooling off" period to help prevent crimes of passion."

The reason I find it so hysterically funny is because prior to the Brady Bill going into effect, TN had a 15 day waiting period for handgun purchases.

So I guess I should say "Thanks Sarah, you stupid cow" for that one.

Still, we gotta work on these two - "Defeated NRA effort to allow carrying of hidden handguns into bars. Defeated NRA effort to force businesses to allow loaded guns in the workplace." - so we can get that "F" we should have.

I am so proud

:D finally an f i am proud of. :D

eliminated the 48-hour waiting period on handguns for secondary sales.
Why wait when the background checks just take a few minutes.

Sigh, I live in Illinois. Oh well so far most everything fun is legal here in the southern half (the gun laws dont get wacky till you find your way north). But our Govenor has been working hard to change that, hes been wanting legislation passed that would ban semiautos.:what: Im on the western side of the state next to the river, and have thought long and hard about moving to Missouri.

Georgia received a D. That will certainly change to a F since our Gov just signed the Stand Your Ground Law on July 1st.

:neener:

Kansas got a C- I'm sure that will change when they figgure out we passed a CCW bill & it go's into effect Jan 1st, 2007!:neener: :neener: :neener:

I'm so sad I wanna cry. Arizona only got a D! sob,,,,,sob,,,,,sniff,,,sob

OK I'm over it now! On behalf of all Arizonians (or are we Arazonites?) I vow we will work hard and strive for an F!

NOT AGAIN.

I guess I'll have to download the FBI UCR for the year of the Brady Grades
and do a Brady Grade--crime rate chart and sort by grade, sort by
crime rate, and demonstrate the oobvious: there is no correlation between
Brady Grade and crime rates. Some of the highest crime areas get
As and states like Idaho graded "F" are relatively crime-free compared to
some of the As. Brady grade is a predicter of nothing.

A "GOOD" BRADY GRADE DOES NOT GAURANTEE SAFETY.
A "BAD" BRADY GRADE DOES NOT GAURANTEE PERIL.

Whoever dreamed that crap up needs to sit in a corner wearing a dunce cap.

I bought handguns under the 15-day rule in Tennessee.
In one case the application for permission to purchase was
approved as I stood at the window at the police station;
in another purchase, I took the form to the county
sheriff and the approved form was mailed the next business
day. If the Chief or Sheriff had denied the purchase, the
sale could not be completed; but, if they did nothing, at
the end of fifteen days, the dealer was to assume there
was no objection to allowing the sale. Good riddance
to the fifteen day waiting period.

Yeah, D- in Utah just missed the mark. We ALMOST eliminated the weapon in vehicle exclusion for non-permit holders. If we can do that next year, I think we might make the grade.

I have to rationalize giving a click to that website.

Don't you love how thay think that police should be the ones who decide who is and isn't good enough to carry?

Fella's;

First, no flames intended, but let's please get the gentleman's name spelled correctly.

"From Carlos Hatchcock's home state?"

It's Hathcock.

Secondly, both Wyoming & Montana are F states. Hardly surprising, but gratifing nonetheless.

There is no "cooling off" period to help prevent crimes of passion."

More proof to me that Bradyites get their knowledge of crime and guns from dime novels and not real life.

Ballistic Fingerprinting - Must handguns be ballistic fingerprinted prior to sale?

Ballistics marks are not like fingerprints or DNA: they are like dental records, and change sometimes radically during the lifetime of the gun. The Brady inspired Maryland "Ballistic Fingerprint" database has been a waste of millions of dollars with no benefit. Vrady deserves a dunce cap.

Background Check At State Level - Do state police perform a background check in addition to federal NICS check?
Gun Show Checks - Are background checks required at gun shows?
Secondary Sales - Are background checks required on 'private' gun sales?

Background on Background Checks:

It is a federal crime for a convicted felon to try to buy a
gun -- filling out and signing the form 4473 is a crime for
a convicted felon. If a million and a half criminals have
tried to purchase guns, why have not a million and a half
criminals gone to jail? There are virutally no prosecutions
of felons for trying to buy guns under the Brady Act.

This issue was raised during the Clinton Admistration:
why no prosecutions of these felons blocked from buying guns?.
The Clinton Justice Department spokesman explained that
virtually all Brady Act background check "stops" are
technicalities that do not actually qualify as felonies.
Therefore, the Clinton Administration declined to prosecute
people who tried to buy guns but were stopped by Brady Law
background checks.

Here are examples of "criminals" who run afoul of the Brady Act.

o An elderly man tried to buy a shotgun; his background check
showed a police record: he had been convicted in the 1950s of
owning a card deck with pictures of naked women.

o A local man had a background check show he had been
charged with a felony; as a teenager he was night clerk
at a hotel that was robbed. He has a videotaped deposition
from the local chief of police that he was charged because
at that time hotel clerks, expecially teenagers, were routinely
taken under suspicion in hotel robberies until cleared. He
was cleared but the original charge shows on background check.

o Another local man always is denied on initial background
check because he has a felony arrest record: he had the same
name as a suspected felon: he was arrested then released on
grounds of mistaken identity. Everytime he goes to buy, sell
or trade a gun he takes copies of his appeals form and the
court records showing it was a mistaken identity arrest.
When the background check kicks out denied, he sends in a
appeals form and a copy of the court record and in a few
weeks the transaction is approved.

These are examples of why, although over a million "criminals"
have been denied the right to purchase a gun, there have not
been over a million arrests of felons for attempting to buy guns.

California A-, Connecticut A-, Hawaii A-, Illinois A-, Maryland A-, Massachusetts A-, New Jersey A-, New York B+:

All with higher grades than the District of Columbia with a B.

Stand tall and be proud. Wear that report card with honor. :neener:
