I like Glocks, I love Sigs. Springfield's XD offerings get my attention too (I own a .45 ACP XDS and love it finally).
I currently own a Glock 23, Glock 20, and Glock 22. I shoot the Glock 20 sparingly (only started reloading 10mm a short while ago), the Glock 22 is one of my bathroom guns (I have a masterbedroom with its own bathroom), and the Glock 23 used to be a carry gun but my fiancee likes it.
With that said, I love my West German Sig 228 9mm and want a Sig 229 if I can get it for the right price. And I want a Sig 290 in 9mm and a Sig 220 (in .45 ACP).
Glocks can be great guns for novice shooters and shooters who aren't serious types. It's a gun that's easy to become competent with, maintain, and has good customer service (friend of mine cracked the frame on his G31 and Glock replaced it at no charge).
Sigs are better pointers for me personally, but Glocks are a great guns for the masses.
I'm not likely to sell my Glocks unless we have another 2012 where I'm getting $650 for a Gen 2 Glock 19 with three mags.

I also brought my first Glock home yesterday. Never thought I would buy one, and then I actually tried one.
I had lots of fun today detail stripping it.
I think you will find it to be a vast improvement in shooting comfort compared to what inspired your THR Name!

Ayup, that is exactly what my G30S told me when I got it in September.
When it happens, be sure to make it a Gen4 ... IMO, the grip is a major improvement over the Gen3.

Does anyone know any source other than Glockmeister where I can order a Glock with the night sights already installed? I can't stand the stock sights on them and I live rurally, so I don't feel like hunting down an installer.
Failing that, is Glockmeister is an okay outfit to do business with?

Serious question, why the plastic guide rod? Is guide rod flex desirable in the Glock design?
Watch this video and you will find the guide rod flex is probably of minor concern. Check the frame flex on this baby.

The OP's tale sounds familiar. I spent about 25 years in the Anti-Glock camp. I didn't like polymer, the squarish grip, the lack of an external safety . . . More than anything, though, I disliked (& still dislike) the fanboyish screeching that Glocks seem to inspire. (Mind you, I'm well aware that it's not just Glocks that do this, but my perception is that the Glock fanboys are particularly strident.) Nonetheless, I went on a search for a polymer 9mm a couple of years ago. I had about 7-10 different models on my list. I'm sure any one of them would have served my purposes, but I just kept circling back around to the Glock 19.
Size? Small enough to carry, large enough to shoot comfortably.
Weight? Manageable, even for all-day carry.
Capacity? Good, at 15 rounds.
Caliber? Acceptable.
Reliability? Nigh-on-legendary.
Accessories? Good selection.
Aftermarket support? Holy cow.
I have considered replacing my G19 with an XDm 3.8" Compact, and intend to rent an XDm soon. However, I'm pretty heavily invested in the G19 at this point (holsters, magazines, etc), so the XDm will have to pretty much blow me away (no pun intended) before I'll give up the G19. If I do make that change, it'll probably be because I want to go back to .45 for carry, and I don't like the G30 or 36. But then I get back to worrying about ammo costs and how much I need to practice . . . .
Given my temperament, I'm unlikely to ever be a howling fanboy, but I will admit that in spite of having a spring break at about 400 rounds, I like my Glock. She's short. She's ugly. She's scuffed. But she goes bang when she needs to, and puts holes where I want them.

Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket connectors? I'm trying to decide between the Lone Wolf 3.5, Ghost Rocket 3.5, and the Zev tech V4 race connector.
The factory Glock trigger isn't bad but I'd like a to eliminate stacking, have a crisper break, and no overtravel.

I'm still "meh" when it comes to Glocks. I used to hate them, bought one just to say I had one. Ten years later, I still dont like them.
That said, I'm on my third, and have owned it since '06 or so. Purchased to use as a beater. I have changed what I didn't like, or learned to deal with it. I planned on a grip reduction, but thats been on the back burner so long I think its lost...
