So, I recently picked up a CMMG conversion kit to run on my latest 10.5 build. It's a hoot and the accuracy was acceptable. Well, I got tired of everything that you have to do to go back and forth between 5.56 and .22, so I got a bunch of parts together and put this together...https://photos.app.goo.gl/jwvg9mupmpR9PRQL7
I had a bunch of parts laying around that weren't doing anything so, I threw it together. The barrel is a 16" 1:9 twist and does a lot better with the conversion than the 10.5" 1:7 does. I shoot 40 grain solids. Popping a clay pigeon at 100 yards is too easy.
Well, my dad likes it (he's 82), but said that it's kind of heavy; so, I did this...https://photos.app.goo.gl/E6oBDbgHvaYgi3VK8...it's really amazing what taking a few inches off can do to the way a firearms feel.
It shoots really well. Still hits clays at 100 yards, but had to dial up a bit. I don't know how much, but I have given up some velocity. The crown came out pretty nice too. That stuff that looks like scratches is lint...https://photos.app.goo.gl/pC6hBXXzi9r44cT78
I realized today that since getting the conversion kit, we've put 4K rounds through it. That's four times more than I've put through the 5.56. The 350 Legend build is gonna have to wait. I've ordered two of the CMMG 9" barrel and collar kits and am going to put together two dedicated uppers. One to replace the barrel on the one in the pic above and another for a total build using another slick side upper I ordered from MAS Defense. I figured that I might as well spend my money where I spend the most time.
