I just got back from the mailbox, and I've now got a C&R license. Wooo-Hoooo. :D

It's just the license, and they say an information packet will be coming, but I've got a question that I'm sure someone here can answer. I think I understand it, but just want to verify.

It says not to sign the original, because the signature on each "certified" copy must be an originial.

On the license itself, in the box marked "Purchasing Certification" it says, "I certify that this is a true copy of a license issued to me to collect curios and relics."

Now I gather that by signing a copy I am certifying it myself. Or do they have to be notarized or something like that?

Yep, don't sign the original,,, just the copies.

When the information packet comes in the mail you will know. The mail box will be drooping on the post and probably a back strain from carrying it into the house. :D

Now you send out copies to companies you want to buy from and get catalogs, flyers, postcards and discounts!!!

Have fun!

I got the "info" pack today. I don't get why the ATF spends $6.00 to send a bunch of printed drivel priority mail before the license even arrives. I heard a big 'thud' outside my door followed by a knock, the post office just dropped it and banged on the door once.

I guess the license will follow soon...

Well, when you get the license, you'll know what is allowed.
True, most of which I have already learned here and on other forums. I guess what I meant to say is if they are going to send a priority package that's going to make it to my front door and not get crammed into my mailbox, why not include the license?

Thanks for the link Rio.

This probably belongs in "Rifles" but since we're here and already on the subject.

What's the difference between the 38 and the 44, and the hex and round receivers (other than the obvious)? Is one more desireable than the other?

OK!!! THAT'S IT! No more threads about you people getting your C&Rs. I'm comming up on 3 months and I'm getting pretty sick of all you getting in ahead of me!

Cashed my Check in 3 days but not some much as a FU letter from them after that. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

ARGH! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Basically, they are identical with the exception that the M38 does not have a bayonet.

You can read more here: http://www.surplusrifle.com/mosincarbine/index.asp

Also, the hex ones are older (I believe) in production year than the round.

Congrats on getting your C&R :D The one thing you might want to do is get a book of stamps , envelopes, and 25-30 copies of you C&R . Start sending them out . There is a good thread somewhere in THR that gives a good list of places. When you send it put a quick note asking to be put on their mailing list . I've gotten some good deals that way . Picked up a really nice CZ-52 from AIM and a beautiful M44 from century as my first 2 buys. Saved my $30 fee just on the first purchase :D

Great advice so far.

I purchased a bound book from Brownells http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=1694&title=FIREARMS+RECORD+BOOKS - I have two bound books, one for all my firearms, and one for my C&R firearms.

I put the bound book in a 3-ring binder with lots of plastic sleeves. The original license went in it's own sleeve, a separate sleeve has copies, and I use the other sleeves to hold other peoples FFL's & receipts. I keep the original bound book in my safe, with a copy on my computer(s) in excel format. Always keep a blank 03 FFL in your wallet, just in case you're out and about and need to buy something quickly :D

When you send your FFL out to all the vendors, make sure you ask them to retain your FFL on file so you can do business with them in the future. If a deal hits, you can grab the phone and place the order very quickly since they already have your paperwork.

Start researching cosmoline - it will be your new best friend and will rival Hoppe's #9 as your favorite smell.

Congrats and good luck with it...and welcome to the poor house!

Woo-Hoo!
It came in the mail today! (sorry, arthurcw...)

One question, am I supposed to keep the entire page in tact or do I seperate the bottom part that starts with "Dear Licensee" from the top part which appears to be the actual licensing information. There don't appear to be any perforations, I'd hate to hose this thing on day 1.

I applied for FFL mid january and haven't heard a thing. OK, they cashed the check immediately upon reciept, no problem. the wait is killing me. CONGRATS TO YOU for beating me to it:)

Say hello to your license and good bye to your money. You will save so much money with your C&R license and you will soon be broke.
