I love and hate my new Glock - advice

Just got my Glock 19. Fired 250 rounds (assorted), straight from the box.

Flawless, just like the G-22.

I don't care that some find Glocks "ugly." I agree, but like how they shoot... boring consistency and accuracy are my only criteria.

You know you need one. And resistance if futile.

When I was waiting (at the range) for the paperwork to clear on the 19, someone's paperwork cleared for the 26. I could feel a strong, almost supernatural attraction to it. ;)

I don't need a fortune teller to predict the future, here.

When I got home, I field stripped the G-19 and my .22 -- a Ruger Mark III 22/45 target model.

It took about 15 minutes to field strip, clean and oil the Glock. About 3 hours for the Ruger. I wish Glock would make a .22.

I could feel a strong, almost supernatural attraction to it.

Get used to this feeling.

My first gun was a Glock 22. It wasn't long before I was absolutely hurting for a G26. It became my CCW weapon and I wear it daily.

Not long ago, I traded one of my other guns for the Glock 19, just to see what all the fuss was about. I now know!

GLockitis has taken root and appears to be incurable.

I am selling my HK USP Comp., which is coming up short. It is starting to feel like a brick with a trigger. Other than .22s, I will then own only one non-Glock, a Beretta PX-4 that I can't bear to part with.

Now I plan on outfitting my Glock 19 with new sights, and from some suggestions made on another thread, I am probably gonna go with the Tru-Glo sights.

To the rest of the Glock-sters out there, wondering what kind of sights you prefer. I do IDPA shooting and carry.

I've found if I give it the "death grip" the shell will come at my face. This in combination with a short sleeve shirt do not go well together.

I just ordered the Tru Glos for my Glock 19. If I like em, I'm gonna buy another set for my next glock, which will probably be a 35.

The guys I shoot with are now trying to get me to go with a steel 1911. I shot a very pricey Wilson 1911, but still like my Glocks better. I'm not buying that .45 cal is better than 9mm nonsense for "social" occassions either. Loaded with Cor Bon +p 115gr, and 15 rounds, I don't feel there is any advantage, and I know I can put the 9mms on the target.

I find the Glock to be the opposite of ugly! I love how it looks! I have the trijicon sights on my G26, the 3.5 pound trigger, and scherer grip extensions on the mags. It's the most accurate gun I have ever shot and I love the way the sights line up on the glocks. Congrats on the G19.

At the beginning of this thread you complain about the glocks not having a manual safety... I'm just wondering if you have gotten used to that now? I was somewhat concerned about this too before I bought my first glock. However, I realized that keeping one in the chamber with manual safety vs. not keeping one in the chamber with no manual safety is essentially the same thing. With both options, you have to practice normal gun safety. With both options, it takes me the same amount of time to get set and begin firing.
This is how I keep my G26 at home: 1. full magazine 2. dry fire to pull trigger back and leave it there(this reminds me every time I pick it up that the chamber is empty and slide needs to be pulled back) 3. right next to bed

Someone that I know and is not a gun guy, but is thinking of taking the plunge, asked me that question: If you could own only one pistol, what would it be? Now, I haven't shot as many different types of pistols as many of the members here, but I've shot quite a few at this point, and I can answer without hesitation, the Glock 19.

That's a good routine MillerTime!

My Glocks are kept Condition 3 unless I "feel" the need to go condition 1. I know I risk the possibility of not being ready when something does happen, but I just feel safer with the gun this way. I have practiced charging the weapon and it is now a second nature reflex action.

I wasn't really "complaining," just expressing cautious concern. ;) For now, I keep my carry G-19 in the same condition you describe for your home G-26. Extra measure of safety, and it only takes me an additional half second to draw and chamber a round.

My bedside gun is a Glock 22, which is loaded with one in the pipe and ready to go; sitting in a gun vault. I put a glock block into the trigger after someone here suggested one. I figure if in the middle of the night I need to grab it, I don't even want to make noise by racking the slide.

I'm no longer quite as concerned over lack of a manual safety as I was when I got my first Glock and discovered I like to shoot that gun the best...

Sig Sauer and Springfield XD are good alternatives if you want something similar to a glock but with the advantages of more expert firearms.

I call anything that isn't a glock an 'expert' firearm because glocks are a different breed even compared to the XD. Glocks have a different grip angle and absolutely no external safety mechanisms whatsoever (well, if you count the trigger safety). The XD incorporates the chamber loaded and cocked indicators as well as a dovetail safety....it's the closest to a glock that I'm comfortable with.

Well, I have shot Sigs and don't find them comparable to Glocks. The XD is something I am going to look into. I'm dumping my HK USP Comp in .40, and am looking at another Glock, or possibly an XD. I want to shoot the XD before I buy one though...

Glocks

SkiLune: Sir; Once you go Glock you Stay Glock:)
I've enjoyed following your thoughts and learning curve. These folks that advocate this and that are right.
Glock from the beginning understood what a quality product should be. He created 17 editions to get the G17 accepted by the army.
I have had my G22 for some time now and yes there are some things that I don't like.
Bullets cost to much, not enough time, enjoy the unit, could go on, BUT

Reasoning plays this part.
Having revolvers; shooting, carrying, and planning to pass on to my Son. None of my revolvers have any safety. None of my revolvers
have stock triggers.
All chambers are loaded.

Carried many years before my first Glock. Was I ever concerned with; not having a safety?
My initial inclination of a Glock wasn't high. It appeared drab, lifeless, and just plain ugly.

A Friend had a G17 and bugged me to shoot an ugly gun. Yeah Right.
Started shooting and him a reloading; Two Boxes later, guess what?

Went and got me one and aint looked back.
Have shot many other types, including the XD.45 and boy do I like that trigger right out of the Box. Sweet, good handling. My Goodness.

Would I trade my G model? No; would I consider one? Yes. The first thing I'd do, get rid of that stupid handle safety. If I wanted a 1911? why not by one.

Should Glock decide to put an external safety on the one I want. I'll disable it. Not that I'm self-righteous. I do not want one.

Would I be safer with a safety? Accidents can and do happen.
An empty gun has hurt and killed many.
What is my Point?
I like the way Gaston Glock thought through his products. No Fluff:)
I have enjoyed follow your learning curve.
Sir; keep us/me updated,
Thanks
