...and yet Youtube has hundreds of videos of people shooting them, and not just those vids at events like Knob Creek. Just do a search, lots of results.

Seriously...are they all legal owners? I thought only a select few could own them?

Depends where you live for starters.

THEN.

Sheriffs Approval

FBI Background Check

$200 Transfer Fee

$50 for the background check.

Plus since its supply and demand, and since the supply got cut off in 1986, figure about $9 to 10 grand, YES THAT IS 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS for say a M-16, Uzis and stens go for less, M-60's are more.

Hope you got a bunch of money. PLUS you have to feed them, thats where it gets expensive.

I'm not sure how you expect us to answer that. Without checking the paperwork for each one, how are we to know? But I can't imagine there are tons of people willing to risk 10 years in prison just to post a video.

I thought only a select few could own them?
A select few is basically anyone who lives in a state that allows it and is willing to spend the cash and put in a bit of time and effort. Not to mention that I'm sure more than a few of those videos are from NFA dealers and other SOT folks.

Find me M-16's for 10 grand and I will buy five! Current price on a registered converted lower M-16 is $15-17K! The cheapest full auto you can get right now is Uzi or Mac-10 type and they are 3-6K. If you need a good fix, rent one cuz the novelty wears off REALLY fast as the sound of money going down the drain is louder than the sound of a 30 rnd mag being spent in 2 seconds! We have several shops in my area that rent MP5 suppressed and M-16 for $35 for 1/2 hr and your ammo will be long gone in the first few mins.

In Utah....

In Ut the process is as follows.
1. Find a class 3 dealer and choose your weapon
2. Pay for the weapon in full
3. Fill out the ATF form 4 in duplicate with finger print cards (2) Passport photo (2) and Chief LEO Signature (of your area or if your sherrif is a prick, BCI director trumps all!) serial # of the weapon as well as type (auto, SBR, Suppressor, SBS etc...)
4. Send this form with your check or M.O. to ATF and wait patiently for 2 months+ (in some cases slightly less) and when the form comes back (to your dealer) they will call you and you may go pick up your new Playtoy!

This form 4 Must remain with the weapon WHEREVER it goes ALWAYS! Should you lend your weapon to your buddy and his is not the picture and info on the form then he (and maybe you too) are eligible for ten yrs in Federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
There are some options on the form 4 that allow multiple users or posessors such as filing the form under a Corporation or a Trust (allowing all listed corporate officers to posess weapon and skipping the Prints, Photos, and LEO signature! Are you thoroughly confused yet? Your state laws may and will vary!

***?
Cant you just convert your semi-autos yourself after you get your legal
stuff handled?
No need to spend 10k to make an AK full auto.

Umm in a word 'NO' , converting any semi to full auto will get you at least an extra 10 years , if it wasn't register before 1986 , your SOL and askin for a 10 year long greybar vacation at some lovely federal resort

Cant you just convert your semi-autos yourself after you get your legal stuff handled?
Nope. Unless you are converting them with pre-86 registered parts. In that case, you're still spending the money for the registered parts.

NO! NO! NO!

The 1986 law ensures that the only legal machine guns are those already registered with the ATF, NO NEW MGs CAN BE REGISTERED--CREATING A NEW MG IS A CRIME! BAD JUJU!

(Given, I believe there is an exception for dealer samples, but those aren't on the open market.)

Okay okay!!!
Didnt know about any laws....
I'm not from USA.
Our laws dont actually prohibit full-autos like that.
But it aint easy to get one here in scandinavia.
You gotta be at least a gun collector or something....

You Can Also Rent Them...

At a range I visited in Texas, a couple rented a Class-3 full auto rifle from the range. There was a range employee with them at all times. It sure looked like fun, but the ammo costs must have been insane...

So, you can post a video of yourself shooting a rented full auto rifle.

Hmmmmmm. Sounds like lots of fun. Everybody wants to do it. Definitely expensive. Possibly illegal. It's over too soon. Sounds familiar.

You _can_ manufacture one relatively inexpensively. To do so, you have to have a manufacturer SOT, and it's from then on a Dealer Sample. Which means you need a letter from your local LEO saying that they wanna play with it, because they might buy it.

Some of those guns are likely "post samples."

These are FA guns that can be bought by MG dealers but only sold to the police, government agencies, or other dealers.
The dealer has to show interest in the gun from a police department or gov't agency hence the "sample." in "post samples."

I got to shoot a PPSH owned by a dealer who is a friend last weekend.
I've fired several others.

I missed the boat on full autos in the late 1980's. They were "reasonable" then. Frankly though, I would probably not shoot one much, it would be mostly to just HAVE one with an occasional shooting outing. The American180 was always my first choice.

As everyone has said, they are not difficult to purchase if you have the $$ and the time to wait for the paperwork to be completed and approved. As they say though, you have to live in a "machine gun state" to purchase one.

I think there are far more people trying to do auto conversions than we all think, I wouldn't be surprised if most of those youtube guys are doing something illegal.
Wouldn't be surprised too if some of those guns are made after the registration date, aren't registered at all and came smuggled into the country.

Its too bad because when they're caught and sentenced, legal firearm owners get shafted.

Personally I think the full-auto ban and registration stuff is rediculous. Someone here was telling me that they pretty much didn't even vote on it, they just implemented the ban illegally in the middle of the night, and now its legal.

I dunno, I can empty my wallet fast enough with my semi auto AKs w/35 round mags and finely tuned G2 trigger groups. I think two seconds is faster than I can clean one out but three or four seems about right. Lets see, 35 rounds in four seconds, that's 525 rounds per minute for a very short time. Close enough for a semi that is rated at 40 rounds per minute.

seriously both of you guys are right, there are a TON of dumb ass people out there. Thank god this forum attracts very very few of them, most of the time they get flamed to hell for posting dumb crap and never come back.

I wouldn't be surprised if out of all the videos with full autos, quite a few of them are illegal, and on top of that, are idiots showing off with their faces because they're too dumb to realize that they are providing evidence agains't themselves in a court of law.

Seriously...are they all legal owners? I thought only a select few could own them?

Unless your state law specifically prohibits owning FA weapons (and very few do), anyone who can pass a basic background check can own full auto weapons.

Of course, you've also got to have a REALLY BIG bank account. Pay Uncle Sam his $200 tax, fill out a little federal paperwork, get the CLEO signoff (or use a living trust), and go buy your machine gun. It sounds more complicated than it really is.

i would'nt mind a norrell selectfire trigger pack for a 10/22 carbine,,,,,

understand he made a ton of em b4 the 86 cutoff and now and then when he needs some cash he puts a few up for sale, they go for thousands.

he doesnt even put anything online until he is ready to sell it so dont go looking, you'll only find gun finish info.

then again he could be out of them in which case good luck finding one, people tend to hang onto them.

the pack id the registered part so when you wear a ruger out just go buy a new one and switch packs,i think the recomended mag is the eagle 30rder ($10)
