I want it back

Then there was the NIB Winchester Featherweight I had in 30.06. I bought it on a whim. It was mispriced at $360 (the price for a Rem. Model 700BDL)instead of the $406 it should have been priced at. When I inquired if that was the actual price, the clerk checked and verified the mistake but said he would have to honor that price if I wanted it. I took it but never fired it,only taking it out of the box to ogle it. Traded it off still unfired for GOD only knows what. A truly beautiful rifle!

Marlin , .22WMR bolt action bull barrel, nickel plated

About 25 years ago I special ordered a bolt action Marlin .22wmr at k-mart,(model 883N if I remember right) at the time a standard Marlin .22 auto was only about 69.00, the standard .22 magnum bolt action was about 89.00.

Well that wasn't good enough, so I had to special order the .22 magnum with the "optional" heavy floating bull barrel, "optional" laminate stock and of course I couldn't ignore the "optional" nickel plating !

Total cost was 140.00, twice the cost of a standard Marlin .22.

It took 2 months for the special order, man was it worth it, that was one beautiful gun, I scoped it with a Bushnell 3x9 and it was almost comical how accurate it was compared to the standard Marlin .22lr semi-auto I was used to.

Bottle cap at 100 yards all day long, the squirrels didn't have a chance.

I lost it to Willies Pawn shop, I bet Willie still has it !

I wanted to replace it a couple of years later and it was no longer available in that configuration, I have been looking lately on the net and it looks like a lost cause.

If there are any others out there, they aren't for sale.

So now I'm saving up for a Marlin 17HMR ! :)

Model 70 .300 WM, Win. 101 w/ 26" Mod/IC bbls...bought through the Navy Exchange when I was in Vietnam, sold when I was in grad school to buy food for the kids...I guess they were worth it, but I still miss those guns!

S&W Model 16 .32 Mag. Mint condition...Before I reloaded, Model 63 S&W .22LR, Model 1908 Colt Pocket auto .380. S&W Airweight .38 spec., Detroit marked Model 10 5in. Nickle, and there are many more.....

Reading some of this thread just stopped me from contemplating selling a couple vintage handguns for the 1911 bug. I just picked up a early 70s' High Standard sharpshooter for a song. I bought it with the intention of selling it for a 150% profit to fund a 1911. I should have never shot it! I can't sell it now, what a sweet pistol. :D
I hate selling guns. I'd rather wait till I get some cash together.

I traded/sold my share of guns, at some point in life for reasons that seemed good at the time, sure...
The one trade I do regret, though, was letting go of a Star BM (compact 1911-styled 9mm) plus a sizeable amount of cash for a Walther .380ACP PPK.
The Star never missed a beat in the dozen years I owned it, the Walther hasn't fed a complete magazineful without hiccups as yet.

I had a working Bushmaster ARM pistol I foolishly sold back in the "Gee, that was cool! What's next!" phase.

HSO, I am glad I am not the only one who went through that phase.

The pain in the butt about the whole thing is that I have had to buy back a lot of guns to get back guns I regretted selling.

As a matter of fact, anyone have a Norinco L213 for sale? :)

The only guns I regret letting go of are ones I've had stolen.

Of course, I've only ever traded/sold two guns off and both were traded for things I appreciate more.

I have never sold any of my guns yet but I'm about to put my only AR up for sale... I'll have to revisit this post in a couple months to see if I actually regret doing it...

This topic is a sore spot, I had a bunch of guns in my 20s and sold all of them. Initially it was to fund different guns, then for rent or bills and later because I moved to a less-than-gun-friendly state to take care of an ailing relative.

I want them all back!

First, and most painful, is the Dan Wesson 6" barreled .357 with Pachmayr grips. That one hurts.

Next is the H&K USP .45C that I never even had a chance to take to the range: whoever bought that from the Central Loan, your welcome.

My special-ordered, new from the factory 5906 hurts, but I restarted the collection with a 6906 and have a 5906 on layaway so I'm getting over that one.

My first-ever handgun, a Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC is missed, I'll need another of those eventually.

I miss my first SA pistol, an S&W Sigma .40 that actually worked and shot very well. I keep trying to buy it back from the guy I sold it to, but so far it ain't working.

I don't actually miss my Taurus 85, just because it's absence allows me to buy an S&W snubby. It was a good gun, though, and was easily the most-carried of any gun I've owned.

Lastly, I miss the Winchester Defender that I let my ex leave with when she moved out but there are a lot of 12 gauge defensive guns in the world, so this one isn't too bad.

I've been lucky enough be able to get back into the shooting sports over that last year, so I'll be able to chase down those I miss most eventually!

None. I was happy to get rid of the ones that I sold.

Specifically a very nice S&W M37 flat latch that hurt like crazy after 5 shots and a Browning BPS 12 gauge that just didn't fit me well.

Now I'm contemplating selling a Winchester 94 in 44mag. I really don't shoot rifle too often and this is just a safe queen.

I sold my *first* personally built AR15 after I'd had it complete for a week. I put 50 rds through it and sold it. (for a $275 profit, only reason I did it)

I *got* it back :D (sort of... got another)

S&W Model 19 with custom made grips. Bought it new in '81, had to sell it to pay the rent a few years later.

Remington 788 in .22/250 (ran out of friendly places to shoot it). I'd probably just sell it again though, since I lost another good hunting spot I could have used it for coyotes.
Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag-likely the most accurate centerfire revolver I have owned shooting factory ammo circa the 1980's. Second revolver I had bought. Really nice Herrett stocks on it too. :( Ammo too expensive, didn't reload at the time.
Ruger Mark II Bull-barreled Target Pistol-was a great early season squirrel pistol. :( Stupid trade.
I'm pretty hesitant to sell to sell or trade anymore. I did reclaim my Dan Wesson 15-2 .357 Mag last year for the price I sold it for back in 1986. That was the first handgun purchased when I turned 21 back in 1984.
Sometimes you catch a break, not often though.

Probably my Remington Fieldmaster pump .22. I bought it for a song had to sell it to make ends meet, and now I can't replace it for double the price.:(

Winchester 62A made in 1940, I bought it when I was in my 20's. Sold 5 years ago for financial reason. I didn't realize after owning it, shooting it, and taking care of it for 25 years, how attached I was to it. It took 2 years but I tracked it down. I payed 2 times what I sold it for and just because I was so greatfull I gave the guy an extra 100 bucks. How stupid is that? But I have my rifle back. I'll never give it up again.

I had a mint Benelli M1S90 'Tactical' I finally bought, had it eight months and all the hope caught me and all i had left was change so I sold it, man that thing was sweet, sure would like it back

I don't have any because I've never sold a gun. I'm only 29 though.

Lately, I've been thinking about selling a couple guns (specifically my HK USP .45-a little big for my hands and Win 1300 Defender-don't shoot it much and don't enjoy it as much as my other guns)to buy some more guns (like a P2000sk, 1911, M1A Scout, or Marlin lever). The problem is the USP is the first gun I ever bought and the 1300 is my only shotgun. I guess I should just wait until I have enough money to buy the one's on my wishlist. Seems like more people regret selling guns than waiting to buy new ones.

A few Observations

Seems to me there are a few "generalities" that can be made about gun regrets.

DO NOT SELL OFF FAMILY HEIRLOOMS! Or things purchased with "family money" (bought my pre-ban M1A with money a grandmother left me after she passed) Still have it. It is like she bought it for me. :)

GUNS THEY NO LONGER MAKE. Unless there is a GOOD reason they no longer make them. Noticed NO-ONE mentioned the Gyrojet as a regret! LOL

SHORT TERM MONEY FIXES. I always look to ALL other sources of cash before I go pillaging my gun safe.

Here are reasons you can sleep at night for the things you DO sell off.

GUNS THAT DON"T PLEASE YOU. This can be aesthetically or how they fit you. Life is too short to shoot an uncomfortable gun, especially a shotgun!

GUNS THAT ARE STILL AVAILABLE IN QUANTITY. Selling off a Ruger 10/22 shouldn't hurt THAT much! They are around in droves and still cheap enough.

GUNS YOU TURN A 300% PROFIT ON! Hey, you would sell a stock in a heartbeat if you saw that sort of growth!

So BUY young, HOLD on long (at least 20 years) and and SELL high! All others, keep and enjoy!

OR

Buy cheap, use the hell out of and practically GIVE away, as you have had your fun.

Dan Wesson model 15 revolver. Most accurate handgun I have ever owned. Traded it for a Win 94 NRA Centennial rifle. Would gladly trade back if I could find it.
