I would love to own an acreage with these many hogs

You have obviously lost your mind.............

I have been on property that has had them like that, and it was insane at the damage they could do in one hour much less in 24. It took us close to 10 years of steady shooting, trapping, and running the dogs on them, to dwindle them down to a level that we could at least keep the roads somewhat maintained enough to drive down, much less keep the pastures in decent enough shape for cattle and mowing with out having to worry about breaking something on the equipment.

I admit a few are nice to have, if they are simply crossing your property from someone else's to get somewhere else, but when they stay, you cannot imagine what they can ruin.

Man. You could eat pork for a lifetime. Just think of all of the destruction them things do.

I have pastures like that, makes cutting/baling hay near imposssible. no one really wants that problem, you just think you do. I cant kill em fast enough. my hunting buddy and I catch a good group at a feeder and each of us opens up with our flavor of the day, AK, AR 10 or AR15, M1A, whatever....kill as many as we can then drag them to another spot and use that for coyote bait. got lots of them too.

Don't wish a buncha hogs on anybody... nothing is good about them.

Studies have indicated you need to eradicate 80% of the hog population EVERY year to even come close to controlling it.

Hello friends and neighbors // At least you would have a chance to use a different gun taking each hog, then start over.

I'd like to find someone, with that many ferel hogs, in upstate SC needing help controling them. We don't have any on our hunting land (glad of it too) but all of us want more meat for the freezer. The bonus of another day hunting is always a plus around here too.

I agree they are nice to put in the freezer, but hunting them is a job nowadays, more than a day in the woods. I live three hours from my property, and when I get there I have other things I need to take care of besides filling in holes, or shooting hogs or repairing roads from the damage. They aren't even holding on my property just passing through.

I shoot everyone I can, and they are simply replaced in a few weeks. Same at my buddies places, shoot everything and they just keep coming. Then you have folks who think it's cool to castrate boars and turn them loose, like they will stop damaging things, or stick around the property where they got cut. Yea right. Then others trap them and haul them to other places so THEY can have a few hogs, and they spread like a California wildfire. But hey it's all in the name of fun, right.

Sorry I don't share the fun aspect of them anymore. I firmly believe they should have prosecuted the folks who transported them and turned them loose, for introducing a non native species to the habitat.

Sorry bout the rant but after years of trying to keep up nice hay fields or put out stuff for the deer, only to have it ruined by rogue feral hogs you get a little bent towards them.

The pioneers brought them to raise as domesticated pigs. They are a good source of protein food. They thrive well and propagate fast and easy.Dang , they were right.

I read somewhere that only the smallest of the pigs were any good to eat.

The meat of the large boars is reported as tasting especially foul.

Up to around 150 pounds wild pig is some damn fine eating. After that, unless you trap them then feed them up on groceries for a couple of months, they are pretty darn rank to say the least. Contrary to popular belief, you don't get very much "bacon" meat from a wild hog because they don't have a whole hell of a lot of fat on them. The meat from the "side cut" is not very heavy on wild hogs. But a better "Boston Butt", "Ham", or "Tenderloin" you would be very hard pressed to find. Especially if they have had a really good diet.

They dont even get up to 80 lbs around here and they have a bunch of farmland to graze on. Pretty good eatin though.

I couldnt cycle my Enfield fast enough for that many though.

Wow. Today I let a sow go; I couldn't take her w/ 8 little pigglets in tow. Second time this month I have let one go because of pigglets following. I couldn't handle leaving those little 4lb footballs to starve.

After seeing that video, I may be a little more willing---

If you hack em into managable hunks and chunks pack pieces in a cooler and keep full of ice with drain open for 7 to 10 days there is no size limit for eatin em but i grind all but the back straps for sausage !

That's where the line needs to be drawn. Are you hunting for meat or are you hunting to rid yourself of a pest?

If you're ridding yourself of a pest then you need to do what you need to do. It's not easy, piglets are cute...

Ponce De Leon is dead - he brought them to the US - it started with 15 hogs getting loose

I am over run with them at my jobsite. Myself and another guy here gun 'em down where ever and whenever we see them. The pigs have simply trashed so much land its downright bad. As much as I love to hunt and shoot, these things give me fits! Run up on a pack of 25 or more and only a Marlin 45-70 snubnose '95G to pop 'em with. Need an M1 and about 5 clips! The manager wants them destroyed. I'm tryin'!

We are ate up woth them in south jawja. But right now they are mostly limited to the coastal plane region. Some jack holes thought it would be cool to have some closer to home, so they trapped and released afew in north Harris Co. Boy would I love to get my hands on those <deleted>.Ahem . . . . Dirt bags
