What exactly does a $18k rifle package look like. Got my hands on the XM3 and a new M21 DMR today... unfired, still factory fresh and clean. Working on resolveing that "unfired" part.

Website if you want to know what your tax money bought. http://www.deathfromafar.com/htm/iba_weaponsys_xm3.html

So seriously, what does this rifle offer that a McMillan stocked Remington 700 with all the scopes added on wouldn't?

Just short of $20k for an accurized and tricked-out Remington 700?

Why?

And maybe there's something I'm missing...but that forward "Barrel Channel Mount" looks suspiciously like it's touching the barrel. I know roughly enough about long distance shooting to fill a Post-It note, but wouldn't it be rather undesirable to have something touching the barrel up front?

Man, you could get a Barrett, throw a Nightforce on there and get a nice amount of ammo for less. I too am asking, "WHY???"

If you click the link, you can get a good idea of the breakdown on the pricing. The nightvision on there accounts for almost $8k for the price.

$7,300 for night vision!?!? Damn that's expensive!

When will we see BSA Night Vision scopes for under $100? :D :D :D

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Glad you have a weapon that will allow you to do your job properly and all but...

Those are my freakin tax dollars being wasted on an overpriced shooter. That really pisses me off!

Wow........almost as bad as the "$300 hammer" and such.

You should be holding the latest AI for that money. However, I'm glad it's in your hands, as opposed to some of the alternatives.

While the weapon is certainly overpriced, I could think of a hundred worse things for the government to waste money on. At least these rifles in the right hands will give our military an advantage in the streets. Seriously, 18k to the government is nothing but chump change.

If it saves American lives, I'll volunteer to be the chump any old day. We "chump" for a lot of "free" programs for those who do zip for this country . . . let's pare things down there first. Just my 0.02 . . .

It's a lot of money for a rifle... how much better is the XM3 than the current USMC produced M40A3? I don't know, I'm not a sniper, just an engineer who was drooling on a new M21 that is T/E to engineer Armory's... when I found out we had the latest and greatest hanging around. BTW: I'm currently with a Tactical and Experimental command that has everything under the sun, and we do alot of good training, the guys we train need every bit of it.

What I do know is us ground pounding guys don't soak up as much money as other areas of the Marine Corps, we don't have $40 million air craft or fridged A/C pumped offices to protect computers and radar. We're not the guys eating ice cream cones in Iraq, burning up the band with on myspace or sun tanning, while collecting combat pay... we're earning our money through worn joints, broke backs, damaged hearing and dirty cammys.

We're happy with; new RCO's, new or used M1114 hummers, it's great to just have enough ammo, chow and some warm water, it's a hoot just to have a worn out M249 or M240 replaced... the ground pounders aren't know for wasteing money on frivilous things.
