If you could only have ONE firearm, what would it be?

Conversion unit is a good idea. I was scrolling down to post a S&W .22 Magnum Kit gun with 3" barrel.

My life as i know it? - Probably my FNP-9 or a good 1911.

If i was out in the country/jungle or something, or if civil unrest ever happened? - My Ar15

garand - sure it may not be the best choice for fighting off the hoards, but at least I'd feel patriotic/sentimental going down as the clips pinged out the top.

.22lr rifle

You could easily store a lifetime of ammo. If you miscalculate, you can probably find more.

If society doesn't break down, you can plink forever. Probably one of the last things on the radar for being banned.

If society does break down, you could hunt small game. While not the best self defense, most people would still choose not to be shot by one. I personally don't feel you need to worry about concealed carry at this point. So keep it slung with you.

I think a handgun is too limited to up-close personal defense.

While a shotgun is very versatile, I don't think the range is suitable, and I don't like the logistics of the ammunition.

A larger caliber rifle, very hard to argue with. For me though it again comes down to logistics. I'd be limited to how much I could carry on me, how much I could afford for the rest of my life, and how much I could store space wise. I believe that would also limit the amount I could practice with and hence my profiency would suffer.

Anways, while the .22lr is not the most suitable in every category, I think that the sheer variety of niches it *can* fill would make it my one and only firearm.

+1 for an AR. You can hunt, protect yourself, and is cheap to shoot, accurate, and is probably the most purposefully designed weapon since the two- handed great sword.

It would absolutly have to be a rifle, I like the AR better, but I'm afraid I'd have to go with an AK or SKS. Extreme dependability and lots of 7.62 ammo out there.

I would say the chances of using a pistol for self-defense are about 100 times more likely than a rifle, so i would choose a Glock19. Something you can carry everywhere.

tough question. maybe a 10/22 for it's ease of repair and loose tolerances. cheap to stock up on 5 life times of ammo too. seems like a good survivalist tool.

That is a tough one. For reliability and stopping power a 12ga Remington 870. For versatility and reliability then a 10/22. Ammo is cheap, everywhere and you can carry a lot at one time.

Does anyone make the equivlent of a swiss army knife in gun form?

1 gun with 20 other attachments hidden inside it.

Ok it doesn't exist YET.

Can i tape 2 together to make a better 1?

Blackpowder or pa,made a choice.

Winchester mod 120 (old but never let me down)

I'd have to go with a bolt or lever .22 rifle. Mine gets more use in one month than everything else I own does in ten years.
Why? Because the ammo is so cheap! Cheap means lots and lots of target practice and plinking. Lots of target practice and plinking makes for highly competent marksmen.
If a deer, wild hog, or alligator will die instantly from a Velocitor or Stinger in the brain, why not a looting, pillaging bad guy after TSHTF?
Also, as much as the 12-guage folks make a good case, can you imagine trying to execute a garden-raiding coon or possum in a cage trap, in the middle of the night, in your suburban yard with a shotgun?
I've done it dozens of times with .22 CB Longs. The neighbors never heard a thing.

I can't understand all the hand guns.. If times were so hard as to create a choice of just ONE GUN, why is a semi auto or revolver any choice at all?

If i were going to choose other than my Nor' West Gun Smoothbore, I would pick either a 12 ga or a rifle next..

There is very few here who chose a rifle at all..

You guys must be really good pistol shooters.

On a day that bad, I would hump around a long gun over any hand gun, and so what if it is plain site? On a day that bad who is going to stop you? Some anti I suppose.

Me, I want to have a gun that can take squirrel to bear. 1 shot is all I need in a flinter no less, which i can feed forever.

In my 3 gun senario which is OT, but other began that. I would still have the Nor West Gun for hunting. A 12 ga for camp, and maybe hunting, but I can't see why, and a YUGO under folder for my life.. Hunting with the Nor West Gun saves ammo for the other 2..

The folder is small enough I could lug it hunting with the Nor West Gun..

I own hand guns, but want to understand what you are going to do with one..

Maybe I feel the way I do because where I live anyone can saunter right down the side of the road with a long gun in plain site and still have some Ol' Hawg Leg strapped to his thigh.. No one gives that a second glance. Not locals anyway.

Once i rode a horse maybe 20 miles to a primitive event right up Rt 16 near Mt Washington NH, and 3 calls went to the cops.

The cops took them as hairbrained tourist awhile, and finally sent out the Chief himself. When he located me he said "I should have known it would be you!" "I forgot this was "Muster In the Mountains" weekend... He laffed at me and drove back down the mountain. I had a .62 pistol on my belt in plain site and that Nor West gun across the saddle.

where I live right now, My one gun would be a nice, all steel, 1911.

.45acp with appropriate load is enough to drop anything around here, and the gun can still be carried. I can always use my bow for food, those small game heads work great on squirrels and such.
