If you could only have ONE gun to cover all of YOUR needs, what would it be?

Living in the PRK, we are probably closer to this as a reality than most of you. :banghead:

That said, throw me in the 12 guage crowd for all the reasons mentioned above--and because it was the first gun I ever owned. I sure would miss my Rem 700, 92fs, Marlin 30-30 and buckmark tho... :(

Drilling

Love these hypotheticals. They make us think.

If I could only have one gun, it would have to be versatile and powerful. There would be no need to conceal it. Handguns are out.

I would consider a carbine for light weight, size, and effectiveness to 100 yards, especially with optics, but that's still not powerful enough.

Hmmmm. Shotgun or rifle?

Both.

Krieghoff 3-barrel drilling (European)

2x12 ga. 3" barrels on top of a .30/'06 barrel underneath, with a see through mounted scope.

And a trench coat to conceal it. :)

It would have to be two guns for me because I am a hunter and I also have a concealed handgun license. I would use my Colt Officers .45acp and my Winchester model 120 12 guage pump with multiple chokes.

"If I could only have one gun, it would have to be versatile and powerful. There would be no need to conceal it. Handguns are out."

Why wouldn't there be a need to conceal it? Like I said, this is not a SHTF type gun. It is supposed to be your normal everyday life but just narrowed down to one gun. I was just interested in what people use/need their guns for the most. I don't need to hunt for food or shoot bad guys in my normal everyday life. I just CCW sometimes, plink, target shoot, shoot clays and generally fart around. For me, CCW would be the only real thing that I might "need" a gun for so I put that on the top of my list.

I cannot for the life of me come up with a circumstance where I could only have one gun. If I could only have one it would be my Stainless Kit Gun.
Thats the one I use the most.

Sam

Under what circumstances? You can't say present circumstances, because under present circumstances, we CAN have more than one gun. Even if the law changes, most folks can have more than one gun; it just becomes illegal.

The circumstances affect the choice, so some of us are wondering: what circumstances?

model 1911A1 mostly for personal defense at close range, because the best gun is the one thats in your hand, a shotgun is excellent but you wont have your shotgun with you at all times.

for food I would catch fish, hunt with a bow, make traps, etc.

Depends. For general use, a 12 guage shotgun.

for a shtf /eotwawki situation:
Ruger 10/22.

There are no mutant zombie grizzlie bears in my area (yet).
Any game small or big is most efficiently caught in a snare or deadfall and finished off with a .22.

I'm certainly not going to waste 12 guage ammo wingshooting or hunting.

The most sensible answer is Shotgun -- deer hunting, upland hunting, duck hunting, turkey hunting, shooting sports, self-defense, hiking, etc. Of course, I would need multiple barrels and accessories to make it the best for each application.

If I could REALLY only have one gun, it would be a Garand. I can give up bird hunting (or maybe come up with a 30-06 shotshell load?).

Thank the Lord for our Founding Fathers, the NRA and millions of rational gun-owners out there to protect our rights so this is not the case.

My 12 guage Rem. 870. I have a couple different barrels, several diffrent choke tubes, and a whole lot of different kinds of shells.

My Beretta. It's not perfect and there are pistols but I shoot it well enough. The Benelli is a better gun, but hard to put in the pants.

A WInchester 1300 blackshadow. With a variety of ammo it can handle many differt tasks such as: point defense, foraging, stopping big angry critters and even illumination.

This means that it doesn't have to be a survival gun or a SHTF sort of gun,
Since I take this to mean non-defense guns, a lever action rifle in 357, 44 or 45 Colt would be ok. Fun to shoot, you can load them down to rabbit hunt or load them up to deer hunt. You can buy cheap ammo to plink with so for non SHTF purposes these would be great.

ReadyontheRight, I've been trying to find a way to effectively CCW those for a while, any tips?
They seem to sag down my pants and poke out with IWB.
