if only 3 you could have...

M1A socom or scout: 7.62x51 rocks. 5.56x45 was designed for Spray and Pray tactics used by draftees in Vietnam. 22 inches of barrel is just too much, 16 or 18 is more than enough (we are, after all, shooting paper plates from 200 yards, not dimes from 800 yards.)
Give it a GOOD scope mount (like a Smith or an A.R.M.S.), give it a Stock Front Swivel, with Rail http://www.fulton-armory.com/MAParts.htm, a GG&G bipod, and a Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T (this thing kicks the crap out of the aimpoints or the aimpoint cheap knock offs. then maybe... give it a new stock (JAE-100) http://www.jae100.com/index.html.

Sig P226 (railed) 9mm: DO NOT even try to compare ANY other hand gun to the Sig's. Sigs have ABSOLUTELY NO safeties (except for your FRIGIN TRIGGER FINGER), VERY accurate fixed sights, SA DA triggers, Excellent Magazine capacity if you live in a "flyover red state" (which is what the hippie vegan liberals call any state other than CA and NY). A proven design with over 20 years of experience. AND FINALY... it is available in all the calibers people give a rat F#$% about. Sorry to the .45 guys but I like the Sigs in 9mm because they are the most accurate, less expensive to practice with and I would much rather have 16 rounds of 115 gr +P CorBon ammo than 8 rounds of ANY .45 load.

And my third... Dont have one. why?
"Beware of the man who has only one."
my freind has about 42 guns and he has shot about 200 round average through each one. in fact he has 2 or 3 that he has NEVER shot. needless to say he cant hit anything when we go out to the local remote paper perforation facility. I dont like to brag and I generally dont like others who do, but I can shoot gnats ass from 100 w/ M1A or from 25 w/ p226.

Actually I dont count my Ruger 10/22 cause its only good for one thing (SEE NAME OF PERSON POSTING THIS MESSAGE) stainless receiver, 17 mach 2 conversion, thumbhole stock, SQUIRRELS BEWARE...MUAHAHA

Hmm, only 3 eh? Well, let's see.

1. Springfiled National Match M1A, .308
2. 4" S&W 686, .357 Magnum (this isn't fair, I love my S&W and Springfield
1911, .45's :( )
3. A Marlin Papoose, takedown .22 (or at least, SOME KIND of .22)

The .308 would do for hunting large game/long range defense, the .357 would serve for close up defense, and the .22 for small game (ammo is PLENTIFUL, cheap, and light). There's a lot more small critters to eat than big ones and they're easier to find.

Since I'm not much of an "in the box, follow all the rules" kind of guy, I'd stash a Remington 870, 12 guage, SOMEWHERE :D !!!!!!!!!!

Shotgun, Rifle and Handgun.

Make and model are as:
Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun, Remington 308 semiauto rifle detachable Mag.
Glock Hand gun Model 22 with several barrels, 9mm, 357 Sig and the 40 cal of course.
Along with lots of reloading equipment.
HQ:)

1 glock19 or 23
2 ar15 or akm clone if i were rich an ACR or scar
3 rem870 or win1300 or moss590

1. Ruger Blackhawk (45 Colt, Stainless, 7.5" barrel)
2. Another Ruger Blackhawk (45 Colt, Stainless, 7.5" barrel)
3. Beretta 92FS

Only three? :uhoh:

1. .357 revolver

2. 30-06 bolt action rifle

3. 12ga shotgun w/3" chamber and interchangable barrels

(and if I could cheat a little, I'd have a 22lr rifle, too) ;)

Listed in descending order.

#3 My Mak-90 7.62x39: Large enough to take big game such as deer or elk, compact enough to maneuver in tight places, accurate enough to make 200 yd. shots with open sights, and holds enough ammo if attacked by multiple assailants. Reliability, reliability, reliability.

#2 My IMI Baby Eagle .45: What can I say? It's a .45 made by the Israeli Military.

#1 My Savage Arms 20 ga./.22 mag O/U: With the 20 ga. you can take all sorts of game from birds to squirrel to deer sized game. With the .22 mag I wouldn't be afraid to take hogs or deer out to 100 yd. in a survival situation. The .22 mag has as much energy as a 9mm or 5.7x28 so I wouldn't be afraid of it not stopping an assailant, especially with buck shot as back up. Best survival gun I've ever seen.

Only Three!

Okay, I'll play. I am assuming a few things in this scenario. I can only have three guns and they must be passed on when I die. With that in mind...

Breach load, over under 22LR/12 gauge shotgun
357 mag revolver
357 mag lever action rifle

Why is it these threads always ask about just three firearms? Why not a dozen, or two dozen, or five dozen?

Ah well ...

1. Walther P5 handgun

2. Ruger .44 magnum Deerstalker rifle

3. A Browning or Beretta .12 gauge shotgun of some vintage

If I can have only three, my thoughts as of now are as follows:

1. A Marlin lever action 30-30. Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face.
2. A Springfield mil spec M1A. Good all around rifle.
3. A 45 ACP semi auto pistol. Though there are many fine pistols out there, I'm partial to the Sig 220. If I carried (hard in CA), I'd probably go with the Springfield XD in 45 ACP (again this assumes I could have the 13 cap mags - if limited to 10 round mags I will stick with the Sig P220).

Pistol: Hk .40 Compact.... Done
Shotgun: Rem 870 w/ 18 in barrel..... Done
Rifle: Springfield Socom II...... not yet

Why?

This is just as much fun as 4 years ago.

1) .357 revolver, currently SW 65 3" - SD, close up shots on medium game;
if urban only, I'd replace this with snub .38 spl +p.
2) .22 rifle, currently Marlin 39 (to be cut to 18"), small game: squirrel, rabbit, grouse...
3) undecided, but likely centerfire rifle, .30-30 preference

Don't feel the need for a shotgun.

Ask me again in 4 years. May be something entirely different.
