If you could only have THREE

I've thought about this myself & of the guns I presently own, I'd list: USPc 9, S&W mod 60 & I don't know yet for the 3rd, but these two would be carried 99% of the time anyway.
What guns do you already own? Do you plan to purchase the 3 you decide on?

I'll throw in with the full size/mid size/pocket crowd.

1) Full size: 1911, or 10mm, (or 10mm 1911!) or .357 Mag with 4" barrel.

2) Mid size: P-11, or Kahr, or mini-Glock in 9mm or .40, or .357 snubby (SP-101 or S&W Mod 60)

3) pocket pistol for backup or deep concealment. P-32, P-3AT, or Rorbaugh. Or Seecamp, NAA Guardian, etc.

I would have a small, medium, and large pistol.

Going on what I have, a NAA mini revolver
My Makarov
My .45 (I have a Night Officer and a full size-I can put the small upper on the full size to make it more compact)

Small-Keltec, Tomcat, Seecamp

Medium- S&W Airweight, etc, Makarov, Glock compact

Full size-1911, full framed Glock, Sig, etc.

Have all of your bases covered.

Brass....

OK. I thought about your question as I cleaned and arranged the top two shelves
of my safe. It was difficult to pick, but this is what I came up with:

1) Seecamp
2) Glock 27
3) S&W 642 Airweight +P .38 Special

I'd be REAL unhappy if these three were "it". I've been toting a new Kahr PM9 for the last couple of weeks and ~I LIKE it. To say nothing of the S&W AirLite Ti .32 H&R Mag snubbie I like to carry in an ankle holster so much.
I feel a vague anger right now. It's nobodies business how I spend my money or what I choose to carry. I'm sorry that you live in a place where someone thinks they have a right to stick their nose in your gun safe. As a matter of fact ~I've got their nose...right here!

(Sheesh--I'm turning into a crotchity
ol' man. I kinda like it. Fits.)

If it has to be on the approved list of handguns, that eliminates all but a few pre-list Kel Tecs. Guess you'll be stuck with something heavy to lug around in the Summer.

Hey! Hi Russ...

Did you ever stop by Tilford's on the way back to E-Town and pick up a P-32? I was out there last weekend and there were new (and colorful) P-32's in the showcase.

Will

I am thinking in similar patterns to many of you. Going with a small, medium and large gun covers the bases pretty well. I'm comfortable with either the large or medium as a full time gun if either one or the other were to develop a problem that temporarily put them out of action.

For large I have a few Gov't size 1911s but am leaning towards a Custom CDP II because it's aluminum frame makes it about 7 ounces lighter than the others.

For medium size and continuity of operation I like the Compact CDP II. Although a midsize Glock could fill this role nicely as well.

For small I'd have to go with my Kahr PM9. I know there are smaller pistols available but none of them, aside from the two shot derringers, shoot a 9mm or better cartridge. I'm currently using a Kahr MK40 as my small gun but the PM9 is a full 9 ounces lighter which I find to make a big difference for pocket or ankle carry.

It's kind of a PITA to change the guns on one's permit around here and not the thing I'd like to do often so I want to really think it over before making the change.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions so far!

Kentucky Rifle,

I have been meaning to go by Tilfords for about a year and a half now. It seemed like I was never there when they were open. I lost my job about 6 months ago and didn't go anywhere for awhile. Needless to say, my gun purchasing went on hold for awhile. So did my posting here for the most part.

I used to drive by Tilforsd's about 7 PM during the week sometimes and they were always closed. Never got there on the weekends. I Finally got a new position in East Louisville. A long dry spell that I would have never expected in a million years. Fortunately, I had some rainy day money so it wasn't too bad, but the uncertainty was no picnic. Thought of going back to the PRK of all places!

Anyway, shortly after I got the job offer where I am now, I was browsing at E-Town Gun and saw a P-3AT. I waffled initially but went back to buy it the next day. Turned out I bought it 10 seconds before someone else came in asking for one. The shop owner got on the phone to locate one for this person and found out it would take 3 to 4 weeks.

I felt lucky to get it. I'm glad I waited for the .380. I already have a .32 Tomcat and I really wanted a little more power in a carry gun. Not sure if it matters that much but I feel better carrying a .380. I work in an environment that calls for tucked in shirt, dress pants, and ties sometimes. A pocket carry piece is what I needed.

I thought I would be happier with a hard chrome model (which doesn't exist yet in the .380) but now that I've had it awhile I like the black (blue) finish. I figure I can send it back to Kel Tec later for the chrome finish if I change my mind once they start offering them.

I think about going to Tilfords quite often. When I see your posts about a new gun I think you probably went there and got a great deal.

I hope to be moving up to Louisville permanently in 2004. Based on your recommendation, I have to go to Tilfords. Just when, I can't predict but I hope soon.

Merry Christmas to you.

Russ

Sorry you had to go through a bad time for a while, Russ...

But I think you'll like that .380 more than the .32 model. To me, it seems like .380's would always chamber smoother because they're "rimless". No "rimlock" worries. Plus a little more power. I like .380's. Just had a look at my Colt Mustang Pocketlite a few minutes ago. Fine little pistol. I keep it stoked with RBCD's. 1500FPS/283FtLbs. And these are the old ones! Maybe Jeff OTMG will log on and say what the new ones do.

(Where in the "East end"?)

Hi Will,

I'm near Hurstbourne and Shelbyville. Still finding my way around. I used to get lost in my home town in the PRK after living there for 30+ years so not unusual. Quite the commute from down south but I hope make a move closer soon. It's still hard to get used to the rain and snow. Never did much of either in Cali.

I haven't shot the .380 yet. Sure hope it works. If you read about a guy being shot because his Kel Tec didn't work, think of me. I'm sure it will be fine. If it didn't work, I guess I wouldn't have to worry about the County Attorney putting the screws to me!

Russ

It would either be the Bersa FireStorm in .380 or the Combat Commander. I sure do love my Colt.:D The third choice would be my Charter Arms Off Duty (Undercover in stainless). I had the hammer bobbed, so it's ideal for concealment and un-concealment without a snag:)

A good wheel gun is a must

Hmmm....

A little lightweight one like a titanium .38 for ankle carry

A Sig 228 or Walther P99 for hip carry

A .44mag revolver for shoulder carry and hunting.

That mix should cover most situations and needs.

If I ever come up with an acceptable reason to convince the local LE Chief(that's how it goes in CA), I'd have to wear a trench coat so that I could conceal a bug(S&W 60), medium(S&W Shorty-Forty), and for the SHTF, a Desert Eagle in .50 AE:evil:

At this point it would have to be:

Glock 30
Keltec P11
Keltec P32

There are a few more which could make the cut but, they are sort of redundant.

Fortunately for us Tennesseeans, the permit does not stipulate any number of guns so...............let 'er rip!
