If you had a $1,000,000,000; gun shopping spree - Dumbest Thread Ever

Start with a large custom home with a high quality large gun vault room in the basement with custom display racks. Next to the vault, an indoor 50 yard range with quality air handling system and provisions for lead recovery from the backstop.
Add a home security system.
Now you can proceed with the dream inventory.
Yeah, a billion dollars isn't "gun money" -- it's "new lifestyle money."

with that kind of Money I could send 75 Leopard II tanks plus ammunition to Ukraine to fight Russia, and still have enough money left over to buy pizza for everybody. And... I might keep one Leopard II tank for myself. They're not considered semi-auto assault weapons in my state.

Yeah, even if you had enough money to buy every production gun available, I think you would still be in new lifestyle money. At least I know I would be.

I was just kind of curious what gun money would be required to buy one of every distinct model (not just various colors, or minor differences). Looked at S&W's website and saw the number of models listed and took a SWAG at what the average MSRP was (probably estimated high), then it became more of a SWAG to extrapolate to additional manufacturers. Thought it would be fun to add it up and see where the numbers fall. I didn't look at how many models other current manufacturers make. Again, just a swag.

Send them some Bud Light too! lol

I'm sentimental about the M1 (see avatar). I'm not sure why the VFW's get to have tanks in their front yard. What do I need to get an old M60 for cruising around in?

Who would clean the guns afterwards? Or would you hire a whole crew of employees to do that?

Did you ever go to the Knob Creek Range event? The firing line with all the belt feds firing at once was physically painful to be near, even wearing ear protection.

There's a contradiction between spending money on guns (collecting), and high-volume shooting. When I was in the Pole Barn at Knob Creek, trying to make deals, I had to take breaks while the shooting was going on. Highly annoying, to say the least.
Hey, cleaning is just part of shooting them. Just got done cleaning what I was shooting this AM. Unfortunately, though they were fun and I enjoyed myself, they weren't quite as much fun as some other things Ive owned in the past. :)

I was to Knob Creek a couple of times back in the late 80's and early 90's. The side shoots were always fun. Either way, it was always a good time. Being on the line was also about the only time I ever doubled up on plugs and muffs. Not that it really helped. It really wasnt so much as you were hearing it, as you were feeling it.

Shot and cleaned my share of MG's and SMG's in the past too. Guns and ammo were a bit more reasonable back then too. Not so much today. Made out quite well when I sold mine off.

.

My worst event that was the boresighting my tank, looking through the boresight device, when the tank next to me fired. Range master and adjacent tank commander effed up. When I got out of the army, after my exit physical they looked at my hearing test results and asked if I was a tanker:what:.

Why mess with the little stuff? If I had a billion dollars to blow on "guns", I would immediately buy land in Texas or another plains type state for a huge range and immediate acquire multiple howitzers, multiple tanks, a big stockpile of live artillery rounds, a Dillon M134 Mini Gun, an M2 and other assorted FA toys. Probably a nice retired military chopper I could mount the mini gun on for hog eradication holidays, eradicating hogs from the chopper looks pretty damn fun.

Would have to acquire some RPGs with a good amount of live HE rounds. Then at least half of whatever was left after the buying spree into acquiring enough ammo to feed all of those beasts for the rest of my life. Big storage facility and hire a few experts to maintain, repair and rebuild all of these for me. At least a few million into an ammo reloading facility, plus a warehouse of reloading components. Done.

Completely agree! I would do my best to buy the only operational Tiger I tank. That would be a blast, figuratively and literally.

I've been accused of posting the dumbest thread ever (which I honestly didn't think was that stupid). This, however, COULD possibly be THE ONE, so let's just to get that out of the way. Please, I don't need anyone TELLING me this is the stupidest thread ever. You can think whatever you want...

I had no idea there was a contest for dumbest thread ever. Now I'm going to have to try harder!
I'm pretty sure I've got enough points (is that how we score this game?) to give you a run for your money!

That being said, $250M should build and staff a nice little firearm factory to build me my own collection :D. And another $250M for an ammunition production facility. I'm hoping the rest is enough to find some remote land and keep it "outside" city limits for a long time.

For guns, I collect .32 ACP/7.65mm pistols from prior WW2. I'd finally get a pre-war PPk. I'm too old to want much in the way of 'new' arms or 'using' arms.

I would get my house electricity and plumbing updated. Get my car repainted and a general mechanical update. Get my truck body cleaned up (rust spots) and a general mechanical update.
Hire a full time house cleaner. Probably have to pay them combat pay.
Make sure all my offspring are 'invested'.
Donate funds (for specific purposes) to my gun club.
Donate a lot of funds to specific Christian and charitable programs around the world. (I'm not Buddhist, okay?)
Just give cash to people I don't know who need it. Something like that old TV program "The Millionaire".

What else? I'm old.

I think y'all are thinking small. With a billion, you could start your own gun company. Manufacture all those guns you now wish somebody else would (or still did). Then you could live in suspense, wondering if the gun-buying public shares your tastes ...

Good luck! Looking forward to the challenge! Actually, maybe I’ll take the high road and post the smartest post ever….OK, yeah, that’s not going to happen.

If I won the lottery (i.e. I had "stupid" money to spend on guns), I'm not sure how different things would look than now. Sure, I'd probably pick the S&W or Colt instead of the Taurus when shopping revolvers (with the 865 Defender and 905 Defender as exceptions since S&W and Colt don't really have something quite the same). I'd probably take the Colt Gold Cup Match out of consignment that I took the to dealer when I decided I liked my Dan Wesson Heritage more (on a teacher's salary, I can really only afford one "expensive", i.e. over $1000, 1911, and the Colt went for consignment when I decided I liked the DW more). I'd definitely finally replace the S&W M57 I never should have sold. I might pick up things I want to try a little quicker. However, I'm moving towards trying to cut back, not necessarily on numbers, but on totally different styles, so my limited range time could be more productive and I will be better with what I have. That said, I'd likely buy thousands of dollars more in ammo (for each caliber I have), and join one or two more ranges (I can only really afford to have one membership, and if they are busy, they are busy... "stupid" money would let me join a few so if one if too busy, another might not be).

I'd also probably buy a professional style simulation suite and laser pistols and convert a room of my house. If I wanted to get really stupid, I might hire a gunsmith to take care of, and even clean my guns for me.

My goal wouldn't necessarily be volume (though I might buy a lot of revolvers, which are going to all have a similar MOA, and 1911s which also would point and shoot similar to each other), but rather improving my shooting.

Come to think of it, I think if I came into crazy money to spend on guns, I'd open a shop and range. Not just any shop and range, but a destination.

Maryland is one of those states that are very strict about transport, about the only place you can go after the range is home until you get your guns out of your car. The range I'm a member of has a restaurant and some lounge areas open to everyone so you can hang out with your friends for a while after shooting. They also have a VIP lounge with cigar lounge, pool tables, and more, but at $5-10K initiation fee and thousands more per year, I can't join. If I came into crazy money, I'd open something similar, but with cheaper VIP fees (for the full experience, I can see a charge to give it an "exclusive" feel for marketing reasons, but if I came into that kind of money, the business wouldn't really need to make a profit). Pool tables, an arcade, a section set up as a cigar lounge, food with wait service in parts, and counter service in more casual parts... make it a place people would want to visit even without the guns and people could spend the evening shooting and hanging out with friends without worrying about storage and transport laws. Maybe gun lockers to rent by the hour so you wouldn't have to carry your range bags with you while enjoying the other amenities.

Good idea, but with silly money, I’d follow the lead of some others, buy some land, and build a gun range. Maybe buy a boring machine, or have another billionaire with a boring machine, bore a 100 yard tunnel for year round, weather proof range time with no wind to factor.
