If you had to choose a rifle and a handgun to go into a battle/armed conflict ?

A SIG 551 with Trijicon Accupoint 21 and a good light. Don't own a SIG now, but have quite some experience with less glorious AK variants, and test drove one some time ago... still went with an AR for competition but for serious discussions I'd definitely prefer the SIG.

Sidearm - definitely a CZ SP-01 decocker with several 26-rounders and a good light.

Restricting myself to what I own

1911 45ACP and M1 Garand

Well I am old and its what I'm familiar with and I'm to old to carry around an M2, I'd need a wheelbarrow just for the ammo for the M2.

If I was going into Iraq with the soldiers (G-d help us if they need the help of a 38 year old very overweight shomer shabbos man who hasn't seen any military training since BCT when he was 19) and could bring whatever I wanted I'd pick:

Out of what I own I'd take my AR 15 and SIG 226 or CZ 75B. These aren't necessarily my first choice all else being equal, and an HBAR AR may not be the best combat choice, but resupply is an issue. The AR can use M16/M4 mags and many of its replacement parts. The pistols are my only 9mm pistols and at least I could use the Army's ammo. If I bought something new I'd get a Beretta 92 for the same reason I'd bring the AR.

If we were to supply our own ammo and replacement parts (or if the government would supply us regardless of what we brought) I'd prefer something with more long range power than the AR and more powerful than the 9mm (nothing wrong with good 9mm JHP for self defense, but if using FMJ I want a .45ACP or a .40S&W). I'd probably bring a .308 semi-auto, or a medium caliber bolt rifle. First choice would be an M1A, HK G3, CETME or FN FAL- the range of a .308 (though not quite as accurate as a bolt rifle) but with 20 round mags and faster firing than a bolt rifle for close in battle. For the pistol, I'd probably go with a full-sized 1911 (I love the platform and I love .45ACP). Second choice would be a nice .40S&W- the full-size SIG 226, or my more compact 229 being very high on the list.

My Sig 556 with Aimpoint M3 and my Sig P229 with Sig Iron Sights and a CT Laser. I would also make certain I had my Emerson folder and a Karambit hanging from a lanyard around my neck.

If I needed a shotgun, I would carry the Mossberg 590. I just like the action and the safety.

But, I would really like to see every American under arms OUT of Baghdad, as soon as that can be accomplished. I don't want another brother in arms to risk life or limb for these POS in Iraq.

A MP7 and a brick of ammo.

as only weapon.

I believe there will be lots of
M4s and AKs and RPGs and Berettas
and M14s and Dragunovs and and lying around. :)

M1a, then I could pick up a few AKs
Handgun - whatever's locally popular, prolly some sort of 9mm. Ideally a 1911 or XD in .45 ACP, but ammo availability and all that...

I would want something light as I would have to carry it all day and something I can get ammo for. My AR 15 E 2 is not that much lighter then my M 1 but I can get the AR in to action faster and get and carry more and ammo easer. My handgun I would like a 1911 in 45 ACP but it might be hard to get ammo for. Around home If I go up against a pack of wiled dogs or coyotes I grab my 97 win. 12 GA or my AR. my bowie knife and a tomahawk

Saiga 308 and Glock 17

reliable, combat accurate, common ammo, high capacity capabilities

Note that these are not necessarily guns I'd choose for my current situation in America.
