Per Quinn's amendatory veto:

"As a matter of property rights, the legal presumption should always be that a person is not allowed to carry a concealed, loaded gun onto private property unless given express permission."

As a matter of constitutional rights, I am allowed to exercise my right to carry a concealed firearm. So I could give 2 cents about supposed "property rights." Read the Constitution, Governor Quinn.

This nonsense is exasperating.

I also take great offense to his claim of "too many provisions" being inspired by the National Rifle Association. They are not. They are inspired by law-abiding citizens of this nation, who have had their right to carry for some time - while we languish in ignorance and intolerance.

Geez.. the way he's wording this, you can't even stop to get gas at most Casey's gas stations, while carrying, because they sell alcohol.

This is one of those cases where I say; I hate it when I'm right.

I read the tea leaves on the amendatory veto several months ago.

I have to admit, though, that what he proposes is (at the same time) not as bad and not as good as what I thought.

I was thinking he'd toss a high cap magazine ban or assault weapons ban in there.

This is actually WORSE.

An AWB / mag ban would have been so blatant it would have shocked the legislature in to a flat out override.

THIS crap.. this might actually fly.

They only need a SIMPLE MAJORITY to confirm this garbage.

They need a SUPER majority to override.

They *might* get a simple majority with Madigan's push.

Which *might* have been the goal, all along.

This is why I got so nervous when Madigan "suddenly jumped on board".

The guy is a wizard strategist.

Sorry but private property rights trumps any rights under the constitution. You can no more carry firearm on my property if I say you can't then you can use my property to have a demonstration about an issue and exercise your first amendment right to free speech.

I totally disagree with Quinn's ignorance, but we already have too much government interference in what property owners may do with their property.

And their bodies.. and their monies.. etc.

Alas I'm drifting off topic, sorry.

Back on topic, Phelps filed a motion to override the amendatory veto tonight.

Let the fireworks begin!

And get some popcorn.

Special session scheduled July 9th 11:00 AM.

Remember to fire up your browsers and watch the penultimate final showdown between the forces of good and evil at the normal spots (blueroomstream, or ILGA website).

EDIT: I may actually drive down to watch the final battle in person, it's the end of the road, for better or worse, and part of me just wants to "be there".. if I can get out of work for a day.

Fair enough. I can completely understand and agree with that.

It was just my knee-jerk reaction to yet another attempted excuse for me having my 2A rights denied in Illinois in some fashion or another.

I don't think it's going to fly. It makes it way to hard to enforce. Back to court this will go. The Chicago shootings stats he throws around are strongly gang related. Hasn't stopped them before...thinks now it's going to be even worse? Yeah cuz they are going to take the CCW class, pay the $$$, and purchase a firearm with a NICS check.

Both my representative and senator have pledged to vote to override Quinn's amendatory veto.

There are 8 home rule towns here in St. Clair county alone - Belleville, Cahokia, East St. Louis, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon, Mascoutah, Sauget, and Collinsville (which straddles the border between St. Clair & Madison county.
The local paper has reported that there are 220+ home rule towns.
Can you imagine the crazy patchwork of conflicting and contradictory regulations this would make?
ALSO, even if the legislature does nothing and lets this PoS bill die, we will NOT have "Constitutional carry"! Illinois residents STILL have to have the bloody FOID card to even possess a gun OR ammo!

Can home rule cities pass laws restricting a resident's voting rights? I think not, and get away with it.

And if they pass laws that ban certain kinds of firearms or are way-off-the-deep-end restrictive, can they afford the legal costs that will come when lawsuits are fiiled?

Until overturned, the present decision issued by the Federal Court in Illinois which started all of this remains as case law.
