I was not too worried about my 'stash' of .22LR cartridges, figuring that they would last a long time shooting them in my Ruger Single Six Revolver, but now I can see that I need to find some more.

I just bought my very first .22LR Semi-Automatic Pistol, a German Sport Guns M1911 imported by ATI. After a day at the range yesterday, it has jumped to very near the top of my favorite firearms list. I cannot remember having as much fun shooting a handgun as I did with that GSG M1911. The initial magazine load hit a little left, but after an easy rear sight adjustment, from the second mag on it shot right where I told it to. It flawlessly fed and ejected nearly 200 rounds of CCI Mini Mags, Winchester Super-X, and even bulk pack Federal 36 grain copper-plated HP cartridges. The ONLY hic-cough was a single CCI Mini Mag that failed to fire, even with a good dimple from the firing pin - after I rotated it 180 degrees and put it back on top of the magazine, it went off normally once the firing pin found a section of the rim that had some primer in it.

It was probably a good thing that it only came with one magazine (I ordered two more this morning) since just 10-rounds at a time burned through nearly 10% of my .22LR stock. At ten to twelve yards I was shooting that .22 pistol as well as any handgun that I own. The little water bottles I brought along did not stand a chance.

The German Sport Guns .22LR M1911 is the same basic size as Mr. Bowning's iconic design and apparently even has about 80% parts compatibility. I could not have been happier with how it felt and fired. I was so smitten with that pistol that I came home and ordered a second one for my wife so that we could both have fun at the same time.

... When they are in stock and on sale, PSA carries the slide assembly+magazine for $129. This slaps on top of my Springfield GI model and works great.

...

Oh my! I think a fellow would be hard pressed to find a better way to spend $129, judging from my experience yesterday.

This NIB .22LR GSG M1911 cost me right at $250 Out the Door, and I feel that is also money well-spent. It approaches my CZ82 chambered in 9x18mm Makarov for 'Bang for the Buck' value.

I have above mentioned GSG conversion kit from PSA for $129.
Oddly, mine likes even Remington Thunderbolts.
Thing shoots pretty well
The only bummer for me was that since my 1911 is 9mm one, I had to modify the ejector a little bit (make it slimmer with a file a little bit) so GSG slide would go over it.
The only negative are really cheap plastic sights, especially the front one.
