I hate even arguing otherwise as we are all on the same side here, but Hi Points, S&W and Rugers, even Jennings, provide arguments to the contrary. And, the most effective self-defense handguns such as Glock, CZ, and others, are importable.
Only small pocket pistols are not easily imported and lets face it, RG wasn't exactly producing quality products. The kind of stuff largely not importable were replaced by Jennings, Davis, Bryco, and Lorcin.
Makarovs, FEG's, and Polish pistols are importable and are cheap. SKS's are importable, as are AK's in certain configurations (of these weapons, only cosmetic features are generally covered - features that do not generally affect the effectiveness of the arm). I hate the import ban and would love to justify its obliteration, but SVD's and cheap Mosins from Russia and China do not a case make.
