Imports Banned this week?

so...

I'll rephrase my original Question...

did anything change last week that made the import ban ('89, '68. whatever) more intense or more regulated. I didn't read anything here about it but people are still talking about 'round here. I'm looking for the info, but it sounded like the import ban became more strict or something. Possible just another case of the errornet. . . .

Nope, no changes...yet.

The only thing I can think of is that the ATF might have changed their minds on certain evil features. This can affect certain types of guns to get stuck in imports. Because now they are no longer sporting. I'll look on ATF's site and see if I can find something...

Nothing has changed recently, but this is how it works(as I understand it)

If a gun contains more than 10 imported parts on the list below, it cannot be imported if it, legally speaking, is an "Assault Weapon".

Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
Barrels
Barrel extensions
Trunions
Muzzle attachments
Bolts
Bolt carriers
Operating rods
Gas pistons
Trigger housings
Triggers
Hammers
Sears
Disconnectors
Buttstocks
Pistol grips
Forearms(hand guards)
Magazine bodies
Followers
Floor plates

An assault weapon, when it comes to rifles, is defined as:

A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a
detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

a folding or telescoping stock
a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the
action of the weapon
a bayonet mount
a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor
a grenade launcher

So if a gun has 2 or more "evil" features, it's illegal to import. It is also illegal to put 2 or more "evil" features on a gun that has been imported unless you replace enough parts first, or if by adding the "evil" feature you add enough parts towards being "922 compliant"(such as replacing the stock with a domestically produced one with a pistol grip with a pistol grip and/or a) as it is commonly called.

I am not a lawyer, so do not take my word for it, you should always consult the BATF site if you plan on any questionable builds/modifications.

Okay, I've come back out of the belly of the beast. :D

This is the closest thing I can find:

(O8) Does the expiration of the SAW ban change laws regarding assembly of nonsporting shotguns and semiautomatic rifles from imported parts?

No. The provisions of section 922(r) of the GCA and the regulations in 27 CFR 478.39 regarding assembly of non-sporting shotguns and semiautomatic rifles from imported parts still apply.

Ref: [/URL]http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#o8

So basically if you are using imported parts to make nonsporting firearms, well that's a no-no.But it's been this way for a long time. I know many months, or parhaps even a year or so ago they cut off supply of imported parts that could be used to make a nonsporting firearm. For instance, I believe AK receivers were on that list. FAL's, etc. too I believe. But then guys started manufacturing such items in the US. Use those parts and it's no big deal. You just make sure you have the compliant amount of domestic parts and you're good to go.

Of course maybe I'm an ATF plant, and I made all this up; so IANAL, no rights reserved, don't hold me responsible, YMMV, etc and so forth.

Confirmed, page 37 CDNN shows the FN Defense Auto as being banned. I'm sure it's because they are autos, and hold more than 5 shells.

However they do not have pistol grip, and no ability to attach a magazine (Unless knoxx goes crazy). It looks like they are safe for now. Still sporting.

well...

...what's with the super secret squirrel info hoarding HS?
If yer' gonna' bring it up, then tell what you know...sheesh...:scrutiny:
