How many of your gun purchases were made on impulse? In other words you walk into a shop not expecting to buy anything and then see something you just have to have and can't resist the temptation. I have several times and just wondered if any of you suffer from this affliction???

Yep, I did it just a minute ago. Found a great deal on Bushmaster AR mags and couldnt resist. No I just hope the wife doesn't find out.:uhoh:

Edit: one of these days ill get typing down

Here in NJ we can't really make an impulse pistol buy. Even with a Firearms ID card, you have to put in for separate pistol permits for each handgun. Wait time is usually about a month to get the purchase permit, and then it's good for 90 days. I can make impulse ammo or longarm purchases though :cuss:

I have both my HK's from watching 24. I have my Sig because the X-Files. I think they were pretty impulsive.

If its quality you did ok, my impulse buys are all knives and I beat them into three seperate peices in less than a month. Its only impulse if you dont check its quality in every way, shape and form first.

I've made a semi-impulse buy in the past. I had a gun that I knew I was going to trade on a new one, I walked around the gun store looking for a 40 cal auto for under $400, about the only thing he had was the Taurus MIL-PRO 40 in stainless. I handled this gun and I was sold right then and there. Fortunately here in Colorado, we have the instant check, so I was able to walk out with the gun in about 20 minutes time. I even got $200 on my trade, it was a 15 year old firestar 40 jamm'o'mattic, lol.

Yeah.

Fortunately, most of those impulses have been good deals.

I saw a nice old 1100 Magnum for $250, so I grabbed it. Like-new late-manufacture Walther P1 for $260? Got that. Old Star Model B near perfect, $200? Had to get it. BT-99 for $600? Couldn't pass that up. Really nice .303 Enfields for $100 apiece? Couldn't say no.

The more expensive impulses have been caused by California's gun laws. There are things I might get just because they might not be available later. That's a way to get reamed, price-wise.

I have a few times.

Kimber Series I Classic Royal
Colt .380 Government
Remington Wingmaster 870

Worst was going to the gunshow with Beetle Bailey and Bambam-31. Ended up buying all the parts to build an RRA AR15. Plus ammo, and an Aimpoint M2, came close to $1400 on impulse buys that day.
... it was worth it though... :D

I impulse buy a fair amount.

When I stop in the local gun shop to have a coffee and shoot the bull, I hate to hear the owner say, "Have I got something to show you".:D

Dude you made me choke on my pizza!

As far as impulse buys,I went to get a .22 revolver for my grandpa and got a cherry Smith 19-3 while I was in there.

And my USP 45. I went in for ammo, and one of the guys asked,"Aren't you about due for another gun?"

"Don't know,"I replied,"when are you finally gonna get some USP45's in?"

"Yesterday!:D "

I had a friend while in the army who was always making impulse buys for guns. One day while sitting on his couch he decided he needed a new shotgun and would sell me his for $200 cash. The shotgun was a mariner finish Mossberg 590 with a side saddle.:D Needless to say I jumped at the chance and had him drive with me to an ATM before he could change his mind. Our next stop was Guns Galore where he picked up a Remington 870 with a pistol grip stock for a decent price.

Got these in the last 5 years while "just browsing". Glad I bought them before I retired. I have only bought one gun since retiring...an $89.95 Mosin Nagant. I should have kept working.

I'd be willing to bet that more than half of all gun purchases are impulse buys. Thats the whole point of a gun show, the buyer can have the gun visible and in their hands. You can't underestimate the power of asthetics. If a gun is pleasing than it is that much more tempting.

Several of mine have been impulse buys.

Most notable was an SKS. One of my co-workers with an FFL asked me in 94 if I wanted to go in on a group buy of SKS's. I asked "What's an SKS and why do I want one?" His reply, "Cuz it's $59, and they're gonna ban 'em." My response "Here's 3 20's, keep the change!" Never regretted that purchase for a second.

Since getting C&R license it has opened up a whole new world of impulse buying. A pair of K-31's and an Ishapore Enfield come to mind.

Depends on what you mean by 'impulse' buy.

I collect old S&W revolvers and old Colt autopistols. I live in PDSR California, so all 'used' guns are actually person to person consignment deals. (Dealers can only sell new guns on the politically correct list.)

When a nice example of a S&W revolver shows up, they don't last long. So if I find one I want, if I don't buy it right now, it will be gone.

My soon-to-be-ex-wife could never understand this and constantly accuse me of 'impulse' buying. I explained the problem to her numerous times; she would look me in the eye, nod her head, sometimes repeat something I said, and never understand the concept.

I don't impulse buy 'new' guns. Frankly, not many new gun interest me.

I've made five planned purchases. One was traded and one was sold, so I still have three of them, and for the most part they arent used.

My other 10 firearms I own were impulse buys, including my HD pistol, primary and secondary carry pistols, and my BUG.

The only non-planned gun buy is also the only gun i've ever bought at a gun show: A 1946 vintage Swiss K31. It also happens to be the least expensive gun I own at $109.

In review of my own gun buying habits, impulse buys are a mistake. In the last 5 years, I've made 6 impulse gun buys. 5 are sold/traded away, and the 6th will probably be sold off soon.

Damn Taco cost me a fortune!

So I'm driving through L.A. with my daughter about 2:30 pm. I used to live in LA so I suggest we stop at this famous taco stand right off the 405.. We have a bite to eat and walking back to the car we see the freeway is already at a standstill. I suggest we kill some time and go look at this big gun store nearby. We go there, my daughter is interested in guns, and they are real nice to us. They have a bunch of top end 1911's that you rarely see in stock anywhere. I'm looking at Brown's and Wilson's and then the salesman says, "Look at this'-and takes a box out from the back. He says, "Someone ordered this and said today that they can't get it. I'll give you a deal" It was a brand new Springfield TGO 1. Impulse? Well, I'm not sure that's the right word but I know my lips said "Yes" while my brain was still thinking about it.
So, the taco stop cost me a bundle-and the freeway was still bumper to bumper for hours-but I was fat and happy all the way home(3 hours)! I love that gun. I love tacos.

Impulse Buys??

Yes, Save Me, Yes!!

Happened yesterday. Went looking for ammo in a couple stores. I'd been thinking about getting a .22 plinker. Found a Sig Mosquito for a pretty good price so I bought right then and there. Usually I shop, agonize, price compare, agonize, then decide. The impulse thing is a lot easier, but my budget says woah big boy, don't do that too often.

Save me! :D
