I have used IMR powders since 1982 and have just started seeing info on the new Enduron powders. I am curious on how the new powders fit in / compare to the existing line up.

For example, I use 4350 for 30-06, 4064 for .308. The IMR site says 4166 is great for .308 among other. It says 4451 is good for 30-06 and 4995 is good for .300 WM.

I am wondering if I should start working up new loads with these powders or just stick to what has worked well for folks. What loading books have data on these new powders? I have all the latest editions from Nosler, Hornady, Sierra, Speer, Lyman, etc. Guess I will be buying new editions for those that have data for the new powders.

Bottom line - I would like to hear if folks are jumping on the Enduron band wagon or just continuing to use loads that are proven for 80 years, like 56/57gr for 165 30-06.

Thanks,

Steve

There is an article in the Hodgdon 2016 magazine introducing IMR 4955 that has some backstory on Enduron as part of the piece.

FWIW that magazine is worth every cent of the $8.99 it cost.

IMO as time goes on the older powders will be phased out as with all older technology. The new powders are produced with newer methods which cost less. If you are running low on powder and will be buying soon I see no reason not to give the new powders a try. Nothing really lost there.

It will be a while before use up my powder supply  so I won't be trying them any time soon.

I just bought 48 Lb of varget yesterday so it will be probably a year and change before I try them.

I've heard second hand from reps that these are the exact same recipe just produced by a different mfg. (eg 4451 = h4350, 4166 = varget) but the claims about copper fouling reducers make me skeptical that they're exact. Who knows. Hopefully they'll be close enough. Would be great to have some cheaper powder.

Having just started researching powders for 223 and 308 and having just received the latest Hodgdon 2016 Annual Manual, I decided to choose 4166 over 4064 for 223/308 loads. The Annual Manual also has some good articles which cover some of the Enduron Powders and has plenty of useful load data for all Endurons.

I have a can of 4166 on the shelf for .30-06 to experiment with. Just haven't had the time. From what I've heard people seem to like it.

Just got my copy in the mail today. :)

Hodgdon really seems to have it together. I wish that magazine came out more than once a year.
