I'm home with a knee injury and was thumbing thru a few websites. I had not been to IMR's site in some time. I was surprised to see they have several new (to me) powders out. IMR 4166, IMR4451, and IMR 7977. Has anyone seen or tried these powders? The site says they are based on Enduron technology.

After further digging, the new powders are supposd to hit dealer shelves in early 2015. For the guys who love Varget, IMR 4166 is supposed to be very close to Varget's burn rate. Might be worth checking out. They also have something in them to help slow copper fouling. Similar to CFE powders is suppose.

I was looking at load data last night trying to find a Ramshot Hunter replacement. A couple of those new powders may be winners.

Are any replacing the burn rate area of 4756 or 7625? Mr Hodgdon guy replied in an email I sent him that something eventually would. Pretty sure he said 2015 too.

Good luck Ten.
Keep us posted. I'll grab a pound to try in the one rifle I have that like Varget......If you don't grab it all first

To get an idea of how IMR4166 stacks up to other powders in 308 Winchester, go here to Hodgdon's reloading center, there is new 4166 loading data: http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

With the new formatting, choose the 308 Winchester. Got to the menu and choose the bullet weights you want to see, then check only the IMR and Hodgdon powders boxes in the powder section. In the powder menu box pick only 4064, Varget, H-4895, 8208XBR and 4166 in the powder choice boxes.

Click the "Get Data" Icon. What you will get is loading data with only these powders. You will quickly see how 4166 stacks up in velocity with these other good 308 powders.

It looks like 4166 is very similar to H-4895 and 8208XBR in burning speed and unfortunately, 4166 is slightly faster burning than Varget and 4064.

Is the Shortage finally over????

I just found that IMR 4166 was stocked at my local gun shop. In 1lb and 8lb containers. It has a fluorescent yellow-green label. Other powders stocked are BL-C(2), 8208, IMR4198, H335, H322, Acc LT-32, H4895, Vihta 140, Norma 201, 203B, H4198. It is nice to see that the supply is easing, Finally. I even found the popular Primers, WSR CCI, S&B, Rem 7.5, Fed 205, etc. :)

I walked into my LGS the other day and was surprised to see full shelves of powder, another full case of BE-86, CFE-pistol and even some VV. They had a full compliment of rifle powders (but they always did). That's the most pistol powder I've seen in there for over a year.

The shelves were actually crowded with all my favorites except for Universal, and 2400. I'm not out of either one but when I see them I will grab a few pounds of the 2400 for my magnums.

I'm up to 6lbs of BE-86 now but have to more road trips to take before I will actually have quality time to do some "real" testing.

I'll have to check out the IMR web site to check out the new powders their offering.
