Listening to late radio last night, it's fun to go to sleep to, and a guest says that DHS has purchased billions of rounds of ammunition. That's a lot. Guest sort of linked falling $ with incoming Amero and the ammo would make sure it all happened smoothly.

Anyone know where to find info to confirm this? The show is entertaining, but I wouldn't call it's information reliable.

I saw a document somewhere that lake city had produced 2.5 billion rounds this year. But I can't remember where for the life of me.

Breaking that down though, sounds kind of wild.

2.5 billion per year.
6.8 million per day.
286,000 per hour.
4,700 per minute
79 per second.

That's a LOT of freakin' ammo.

I want some.

The DHS, to my knowledge, is an oversight office of elements of the CIA, FBI, ICE, TSA, BATFE, Secret Service, and local law enforcement that coordinates between those agencies. DHS, themselves, would not need ammo. Now if the federal LEAs that are now largely under DHS oversight (FBI, ICE, TSA and Secret Service) purchased a billion rounds of ammo, I'd believe that in a heartbeat. That's probably only a thousand rounds per agent; I'm over halfway there just this month in terms of target ammmo.

Yes DHS ordered a lot of ammo, a friend at the local ATK plant says they are still trying to catch up on some of those orders... I guess if we stopped using it all up they could fill the orders.. LOL I'm kidding about using it up BTW...

If the amount we put downrange on "Happy Day" (not an official government term, but as fast as you can stuff mags you get to practice your full auto control) at the academy is any indication, DHS probably goes through quite a bit of it.

My academy log book is packed away, but I think I put well over 2,000 rounds of .40 through the pistol during training. 50 people per class, that's over 100,000 rounds right there, just for one class for one agency and just for pistol training. Then there are the shotguns and rifles.

It is hard to fathom the concept of a billion, but I wouldn't doubt that DHS is asking for and getting it.

Like Liko said it was strange because the DHS gives money to other agencies to buy their own ammo. If the DHS stopped giving money away people would have heard of it, and if they were firing 79rounds a second people would have heard that too.

Ergo it would appear that the Department of Homeland Security is buying large quantities of ammunition and stockpiling it.

MD_Willington any chance you could ask your friend for more information next time you see him? Would be interesting to know what calibers and quantities.

in my town...

I didnt know these guys were as they are, dressed as such, in such a capacity, have no idea what they do really (other than 'clean up the area' when dignitaries come to town, from a DHS recruiter), but a guy walked into a store the other day, that my wife was in, and he was dressed sharp, gear, high and tight, ready to go, all unfamiliar markings. She asked him what he did and replied sternly, Homeland Security. So I imagine they themselves might put some rounds downrange somewhere, not just give away to associated agencies. Although after this article I'm inclined to call them Department of Homeland InSecurity :banghead:

Lucky, they ran a story in the Lewiston Morning Tribune months ago, from what I've asked and been answered with, they are ordering .40 S&W.

Last Time I went out with my friend, about 20 of us went altogether, we had a lot of .40, .45, & 9mm, I used a fair amount of .40 myself on a spinner and a dueling tree. This was Blazer Aluminum though in .40... the .45 was a canceled order of frangible, and the 9mm was some Engineering samples from Independance company. I was allowed to keep a pile of it.

I'll probably see my friend at church this weekend, so shoot me a PM on Sunday and I'll see what he says...

C'mon, how much money could they possibly lose if they just gave me a half an hours worth.:)

I'd be happy with 15 min worth....I'm not greedy.:p
