While looking through the gun shop today for a new CC pistol. I came across a Sig Sauer platinum elite compact 1911. This gun fits my hand like a dream. It is light weight great sights, nice finish. Price was $1085 a little more than I want to spend but I could be convinced. I currently have a P226 and love it. Sig makes good guns but I know nothing about their 1911's. What can you all tell me?

I don't know anything personally. I do have Sigs and they shoot well. I also have other 1911 pistols and love them.

Check out the 1911 forum: http://forums.1911forum.com/

They have sub-forums for many of the major 1911 manufacturers, but not for Sig. However, they also have a sub-forum for other 1911s at:

Do a search on the Sig 1911 and you will get plenty of hits. I actually searched myself because I have considered getting one.

OOOOOOOOOOO

Very nice. You shouldn't have done that to me. My CZ P-01 might get jelous.

Sigs are great guns. I have a full size GSR and love it. I would opt for the C-3 but that looks like a great one.

The sig 1911's were not well received. Let's see if the posters here echo this.

They changed some of the dimensions, seemingly for no reason. For example, the slide is wider. Part of the strength of the 1911 platform is the aftermarket support, and changing things like the slide dimensions GREATLY reduces aftermarket support in things like holsters.

I had very poor luck with a Revolution Carry I purchased in early 2007. Its replacement (that should tell you something) also broke. The styling of the slide, apparently meant to evoke the "classic" P-series, prevents it from fitting in a number of holsters. I did not really mind this and was prepared to have a holster custom made but for the reliability problems.

For example, the slide is wider.

That is not correct, at least partially so. The slide is the same overall width as any other 1911, even a bit less than some. Contouring is different and it may have thickness in different places, but overall thickness remains the same as any other 1911. If you do a search you will find a thread or two where comparisons were done between a number of 1911 slides and all were right around .91 inches (if I recall correctly), or thereabouts, including the SIG.

It shoots nice and handles very well, as far as a carry gun it is still little on the bulky side compared to many other guns. I had hard time finding the right holster for it and when I did it still can be noticable unless you have a jacket or sweater on. It is same price point as there compact stainles elite series which actually are easier to carry and little lighter.

My SiGARMS GSR Revolution STX other than being a mouthful to say is a wonderful 1911 type pistol...holsters are a bit harder to find because of the SiG slide but that price is not bad for a premier pistol...
