Greetings,
Still waiting on the Stag lower (backordered) to complete my A1 M4-barreled Dissipator project (see my earlier post on A1 uppers for photo).
I had been going to do this as a retro build, w/ A1 furniture and 3-prong, but have moved on from that idea. Part of the reason is that I've got a ACE Shorty Skeleton stock laying around, and want to try that one out first.
While I'm experimenting with different parts and pieces, any input on unusual options for flash suppressor? By which, I mean FS other than the A1/A2 models or the hi-speed aftermarket options now available. I don't care for the big AK-74 brakes (and I hear they're LOUD), but I would be interested if the cone-shaped 74 brake were available for the AR-15 series. I assume that the diameter and threading are wrong, plus it's for .21 caliber, right?
One option that came to mind was the earlier "onion" or "tulip" shaped M249 SAW flash-suppressors. IIRC, a few years back you would still see both kinds of SAWs floating around: one with A2 FS, the other with this odd bulbous one. Any chance that those are compatible with the AR, or available on the civ market? I can't find them on GunBroker, AA, or eBay.
With the ACE stock, the Dissipator looks vaguely Krinkov-esque, which inclines me to the cone type on aestheic grounds. This is still going to be a reasonably practical rifle for me, so I don't want to get too far off into left field just to dress it up, but if a given type of less-common FS works just fine (since I'm not attaching accessories onto it), I could go for something a little out of the ordinary. Thanks for any info,
