At a pawn shop. $350 is what they want.

Next time I'm gonna check the timing and such. Didn't have time to even hold it today.

But I also saw a S&W 15-3, 4 inch .38, not bad shape at all, $415.

Sadly the Colt Lawman MK III 2 inch blued revolver was gone. $599 was the price. Hope the new owner talked them down some.

Sounds about fair. What grips/stocks does it have? Some were sold with rubber Pachmayrs on them.

My dad carried one made around 1975 during a stint as a deputy in a rural Colorado county in the eighties. I don't think he was the original owner. He still had it when he died in 2010, and it resides with me now. A fine weapon..

I would have loved to have found a Colt Lawman with a 2" barrel. Always reminds me of a British Bulldog revolver. The Service Six sounds like it's a decent price though I would try to work them down a bit. Never hurts to ask.

Assuming they'd come down to $400, or maybe even eat the tax, that M15 looks to be a pretty decent deal, given how older Smiths have been climbing in recent years. A dash-3 would put it somewhere in the 70's, IIRC.
The Ruger ain't a bad deal, either, assuming good condition. I follow the local and statewide firearm classified sites, and these older Ruger models don't come up that often (in Georgia), and they're usually priced higher than this, and still move quickly.

Well the Lawman is GONE! Happily for me as it takes the temptation away.

I'll wait on the Service Six. Love to find another Speed Six stainless but, like you said, they come up very rarely.

And yes the S&W 15 is also tempting.

You guys want to know what I really want? I found a Winchester 1895 military carbine in .30/40 Krag. Fly in the ointment? $3000 bucks. Love to get that but I need a John Deer riding lawnmower worse.

I Didn't want to make another thread for this, I feel as though it didn't deserve its own post so sorry for hijacking your thread deaf, But I've been in a few pawn shops in the austin area, looked at their selections, which are generally way overpriced. Asked for a fair price, and got laughed at basically. There's one I frequent near where I work, and they still have this old heritage rough rider that looks like it spent 30 seconds in a blender priced @ 275 dollars! I even took the time to show them that they are constantly for sale brand new for 115-175. This has been the drill at most places I've been to. (here in north Austin anyways)

Where are you going where you see a 350 dollar service six?

Driving through Tyler Texas on way back to Dallas. There is a Cash America Pawn on Gentry Pkwy that has it (Gentry is hwy 69 heading north to I-20.)

I only went into it cause I didn't have my gun on (they have a 30.06 sign, but not actually legal as no Spanish is included, in ALL Cash America Pawn shops) and thus I since I didn't have to disarm, I might as well go in it.

The other shop was in a First Cash Pawn on South Broadway (also hwy 69 coming from Lufkin.) There are NO 30.06 signs in them. That one had the Colt Lawman III. I saw it weeks ago and thankfully it's gone now otherwise I'd have been tempted.

My philosophy is don't waste a trip! If a pawn shop is right on the way, stop if you can.

IMO you should turn around and get that Service Six and go home happy. Can't touch those for under $400 around here.

While they may not be an investment, they sure aren't going down in price.

Well Wishoot,

I have four of 'em already. Two Speed Six's, a Security Six, and a Service Six.

All stainless.

Still not sure I could pass on that deal. I only have a blued 2 3/4" Security Six and would love to add a 4" Six series to the stable.

I'd grab that Service Six if it's a nice tight one, especially if you can talk the shop down a few bucks. You could always use it for good trading fodder.

Bought mine new sometime in the '70s - gave it to one of my sons 20+ years ago. It is still crisp clean & tight.

Love the .30-40 Krag too but I prefer something in a bolt action. That Winchester Model 1895 Carbine would sure be nice (always wanted a Krag Cabine too), but it's bit pricey for my wallet as well!

P.S.-Sorry for the thread drift. Would still go after the Service Six even I already had a few of them. They were just that good.

My only contribution is including the warning to check the serial number. If the arm has a serial number with a "150-" prefix, there are no aftermarket grips for them. Pachmayr didn't make grips for the "Six" series until the "151-" run of revolvers.

$350 strikes me as a suitable price for a shooting revolver in decent (not perfect) condition.

I haven't seen a Security-Six for a while I don't think, but decent Speed-Six's are pushing $450.00 tag price around here. Most Model 15's are higher than that.

I'd rather have a Model 15, but I'm a Smith & Wesson guy. I had a 2 3/4" Speed-Six, back in the day and it was a good gun.

I'd be tempted to buy both of the ones DS spoke of, I could always use the Ruger for trade bait. I'd try to get them for less of course, but I wouldn't lose them over a few bucks if I wanted them.

There's definitely something wrong with me. Every time I see one of those guns, I want one. If Deaf and I dropped dead and our families sold off our Rugers, it would collapse the market overnight! But, seriously, how can one look at the sleekness of the gun and not come away thinking the present crop of Ruger .357s. Sigh!

Exactly so, Confederate! I'd much rather have one of the older Rugers. But, you know, it seems I'd rather have any of the older guns, regardless of maker. The new stuff just doesn't excite me.

Nuthin wrong with you Confederate.

Sure I like those 'sixes' alot. Sure I would love to have another Speed Six (especially stainless), or even a snub Service Six, also stainless.

But I passed this one up cause, hey, other people gotta have some fun to, right?

If I happen to run into a mint Speed Six, don't get between me and the gun cause I'll be running toward it with cash in my hands.

And yep, I have two Speed Six's already. I'm a fool for snubs. And woe be me if I see a mint S&W snub 19 or 66 for a decent price. I'm nuts for them to.

I pack a Glock, but my heart is with snub wheelguns.

Yesterday, I got out a 6-inch 686 and brought it upstairs. I try to keep my muscle tone up by exercising with various guns as muscle memory and muscle tends to go South after awhile. Even so, that damn thing is way heavier than it needs to be. If I could grind off that bloody underlug I'd do it in a heartbeat. If no more carry that thing in the woods or on trails or hiking than I would with an ax over my shoulder! The folks at Ruger must have been drunk when they decided to go with the GP. Even if it was cheaper to produce than the Security-Six, they could have shaved off the extra pounds.

To their credit, they did come out with the SP-101, which I think is a great little gun. Y'know, I keep thinking about those newly weds who foolishly went hiking with no weapons. (Some city folk think that deep woods is the same as their hiking and biking trails back home.) Anyway, it wasn't long before they realized they were being stalked by a black bear. They increased their pace, but then so did the bear. Exhausted, the woman said she couldn't go on, so Lancelot decides to go get help. He runs until he gets to a telephone and, with a ranger, returns to where he left his wife. When they do, they find her partially-eaten body by the trail. Reckon they bought into Rosie O'Donnell's philosophy that no one needs guns in the 20th Century, especially if they live in New York and have armed bodyguards.

Can you see them carrying a 686 or a GP-100 in those woods? How about a Ruger Speed-Six or an SP-101? Now you're talking! If Mr. Hero had had one of these fine guns...or a S&W Model 60, he could have saved his new wife. (I even heard of a guy who ran off a black bear with a 4-inch folding knife and saved his wife, who was cooking steaks.) My point, of course, is that magnum revolvers with underlugs have no place in the woods. If I were to go camping one beautiful autumn day, my Ruger Speed-Six would be my first choice of a defense gun to pack with me. If I wanted to do some plinking, I'd probably take my Security-Six.

Great guns fer great times! Yes, siree.

Confederate,

Is that a 3 inch Speed Six? Looks mighty clean, sleek, and handy.

Now I totally agree with you on underlugged .357s. I don't even like 4 inch full underlugged revolvers.

That is my idea of a trail gun for all but where big bears roam (and they don't roam in Texas.)

Yea it's a GP but that holster was made for my speed six. Just fits my GP cause I convinced it to!

And now with Texas open carry I can pack it hiking in that rig and not be shy about it.

I have concluded businesses like those think their customers are stupid. And if they (the business) stay in business for more than a few months, well, then they're right about their customers!

I love the various Ruger revolvers in all their forms. I don't currently have a Service Six, but adding one to the herd is on the list.

Confederate, I have to respectfully disagree with you. I've never had a problem carrying either a 686 or a GP100 with a well-designed holster while hiking. The 6" models would probably get to be a little much, but I've found the full underlugs do a great job of holding the guns on target.
