What data is this? Thanks.
I’m loading long 180g @ 1.148 using 6.1Auto comp @ 990.

^1100 was showing moderate/high pressure signs and I won’t share data because of danger. I’ve shot a good amount of it.

Shot out of a STI 4.25”barrel

200gr 357s are nice.

So Mcb

9mm or 357 ? What type of handgun?

Now ,only one

The only thing that interests me between those two cartridges would be a S&W 929 revolver in 9mm to replace my current S&W 627 in 357 Mag as my USPSA revolver. I hate 357 Magnum and never use the cartridge. The 627 gets feed a steady diet of 38 Short Colt that in its modern incarnation is basically a rimmed 9mm (very similar to the short lived 9mm Federal). Had the 929 been on the market when the USPSA Revolver division rules change I would own one now but I picked up the 627 cheap at the time and made that work. 9mm moonclips are thicker and less finicky about moonclip to cartridge fit than 38/357. If I was shooting more USPSA I would probably do it but I have sort stepped away from that sport to play with NRL22.

I currently do not own any 9mm semi-autos and though I do own two 357 Magnum revolvers I never use them as 357 Magnums. The 627 gets used for USPSA and the Blackhawk lives in the safe unused for the time being. The handgun that is currently getting used the most is a Webley Mk VI.

I prefer Revolvers, Really like my 7 shot mountain gun… Same weight as a K frame 4” and as strong as a N frame since notches are between chambers.
I’m not a fan of ear cracker 125gr ammo, I Love my 44spl Revolvers. Yet a 7shot 180gr or 200gr 357 is slow enough not to get the concussion and 7 rounds I feel is plenty for what I need.

Does make ya wonder-
Why so many police officers reluctantly transitioned from 357 revolvers to the wonder 9 semi.
The primary reason so many lawmen of all stripes transitioned from .357 revolvers to wonder 9s is the administrator with the authority DECIDED they would. Seems that administrators, especially the ones without a clue to reality, are easier to sway with hoopla and financially 'good' deals.

Yes and the officers knew the jams they would be in with the 9mms, and definitely became reluctant to the transition. They had a lightning bolt of Zeus being taking away from them - And given multiple more Friendlier ammo to defend themselves with.

The Miami FBI shootout.
I was in Customs just a couple years after the infamous shooting. It was discussed in detail in class (defensive tactics or something like that) complete with taped interviews of the survivor agents and such.

After all the talk of various firearms and such, the main conclusion I had was the FBI agents were prepared, willing and able to make arrests of some very bad people that day. Platt and Matix were hyped up to kill anyone. That was the difference. Agent Morales realized what happened in the first half of the fight and change his mindset.

didn’t the 10mm come after the Miami… then the .40!

I’m going to start adding a SAA .357 with 125g doing 12-ish to my carry rotation. need to look for some nice HP bullets in the 125 range. Speed and expansion is what I’m looking for
Cimmaron makes the Doc Holiday Revolver in .357, that is on my bucket list.

Ya it did- S&W answered the call!

1200+ fps of 200gr Norma loading in a 45oz Semi auto.- model 1076 . Fire and Brimstone!

To much of a good thing, as it was down loaded to equivalent of today’s 40 short and weak.

It was the semi automatic version of a 357… and then some.

I had a 1066 model- a 4”

It was awesome, yet so heavy I never carried it.

Still- when compared to the 700 ft/lbs of a 357 mag 125gr

The 357 dosnt give up much of anything except reloading. My reply would be the NY reload.

back on course!

38 & 357 is very versatile and FUN!

I’m going to see how hard I can push 125g very HC lube bullet with Lil-gun!
Lil gun doesn't work very well in my experience with hard cast. I started to get leading at lower velocities than h110.
It burns very hot.

really??? glade I have some h110.

I think I’m using Lil-gun in 458 socom with 405g doing 1730… I better check for leading in my ar barrel

I like Cimmaron, I believe Pietta makes them

I think that part of the reason that .357 Magnum is lower in popularity than 9mm is simply price and availability of the revolvers vs that of a 9mm pistol. Looking online, there are several models of popular 9mm pistols in the sub-$300 range. .357 magnum is harder to find, but the lowest price revolver is a $350 snub nose. When you move up to a service size revolver you’re looking at a minimum of $450-500, and then if you don’t reload, the price of ammo is ridiculous. .38 Special revolvers are a little cheaper at $379 for a service size Taurus model 82, but ammo is still expensive; not like .357, but way more than 9mm. The fact that so many people still own and shoot revolvers speaks volumes about their future longevity, because despite the cost of operation, people still want them.

Don’t get me wrong, 9mm is a wonderful and long lived round. It generally has great penetration with manageable recoil, but to me, it will always be a European round. When I think of 20th century American handgun heritage, three rounds immediately come to mind; .38 Special, .357 Magnum, and .45 ACP. Growing up, every cop carried a .38 or a .357, and .45 ACP was the quintessential military pistol round. The younger guys that have grown up with every military and law enforcement agency using 9mm might think otherwise though.

Lil gun in a carbine and a 158gr is great for the 357, 1800fps

It is true- Without reloading, cost of 357 mag is a tad much to punch paper. If ya have the ability, Cast and powder coat, reload and shoot ……

1/4 or a less per box of 50

I’ve been loading 200gr cast over 2400 and Unique for hunting since the 70’s. Never noticed it being any worse than .45ACP. .30-30 150gr 2100fps loads will ring your ears for days.

Can you share some details? What length barrel- what charge? Ever chronograph yours?

Its very nice shooting 180s and I’m trying to track down a 200 mold. Otherwise I’m buying em

I buy the Cast Performance WFN-GC 200gr hard cast lubed. I load it over 15.5gr of 2400 for both now. The carbine load I used for years in my Marlin works fine in my 6-1/2” Blackhawk.
