is anybody going to the NRA meeting in houston this weekend? I've been thinking about it. Don't know if it's worth doing.

The venders at the meeting are quite impressive. If you go take something to carry all the vender give aways in those can get quite heavy.

Went once and it was interesting if you are into collecting swag and seeing all the different vendors. If you like to fondle different weapons this is also place because the major vendors will be there. Need to check out guided hunts or fishing trips this is the place. Friday is the least crowded and get your pass in advance...

Well then I think I'll go. It's only a couple hours away, and I have a brother in Houston I need to visit anyway. Is a school blackpack enough for swag? I could get some stickers for my gun safe and trinkets for my 6&7 year old kids maybe? Look through some scopes, handle some knives....

Can it be done in a Friday? Or should I plan on going back Saturday?

How long it depends on your age; I went twenty years ago and did it in day. Now it would definitely take me two days. For the swag think about something that rolls.

Setting the NRA politics aside, I went in 2019 and it was a fun experience. Lots of good firearms/hunting/self-defense/etc vendors to see and lots of good experts in the various vendor booths you can talk to. Unlike Shot show the vendors can and do sell some of their products on the show floor and as other have said lots of free swag too. If it's close to home its worth an afternoon or even a whole day if you can spare the time.

1. GO!
2. 1 day is sufficient, but your MIGHT want to to saturday, just because.
3. The "swag" can pile up fast. Be selective. Say NO THANKS

I suspect there will be a lot of protesters at the site due to the most recent Texas shooting.

Get there when it opens and you can do it in a day. As mentioned be selective on the swag. I'm still wearing t shirts from 05 that vendors gave out. I'm sure they will check your back pack upon entering. Have fun...

To get rid of the protesters in Orlando; The NRA gave them food, water, chairs and umbrellas. We also helped the ladies with babies and strollers that were protesting on and off the buses. They all left in short order it was to funny.

Went to the show. Some protestors outside, but I went around them. Inside, everybody was polite, nobody wore a mask, it was very normal. Lots of stuff to see, lots of stickers, patches, hats.

Gun wise, lot of the typical stuff. I handled the new fn hi power. Felt really good. Trigger was very unimpressive. Like an original hi power with with the disconnect, even though this one did not have one a disconnect.
Tisas didn't have any hi power clones, when I asked where they were, they said those guns were now going to Springfield. So that answers that question. Also, girsan had a version of the hi power with a beaver tail, fiber sights, g10 grips, with or without rail, and those were the nicest of the hi powers I saw.

Cz announced a left handed 457.
Dark storm and POF has these small frame ar10's that were really cool.

Dead air has this new 556 can, and it is TINY. And the reps say it must have a small black hole inside it because it is quieter than their sandman s. It's not much bigger than a 22 cal can. The rep pulled it out of his jeans pocket, handed it to me, game the sales pitch, them walked off. I had to go track him down to return his suppressor. Crazy.

The big names like Ruger, Glock, fn, had nice fancy booths, but no swag. And really, were very boring. Take Glock: it was a row of all the Glocks. You've seen one, you've seen them all. Or Ruger, I can see everything they make at any gun store. Nothing really to see there. FN had a semi auto m249. Made me want to mount a thermal on it and hunt hogs from a golf cart.......

A few deals, but nothing spectacular. I almost bought a tract tekoa scope.

Chick FIL a was selling sandwiches for $9/each.

Extreme bullets was giving away little sample bags of bullets. 223 went the fastest. The primer guys all said buy all you can, cost is only going up. Federal is not expanding capacity because they do not expect this run to continue. All their primers are going into their ammo at the moment.

Those are my initial thoughts.
