Is It Time To Stockpile Ammo?

I started stockpiling when Hillary was running for President. In fact, I know all my UPS drivers by their first names and feel obligated to send them Christmas cards...

If you haven't been stockpiling for a while, you're way behind the curve.

My only concern is, I'm facing a cross-country move within the next year and will probably have to rent an extra big truck. Or two.

Maybe the invasion will occur first. I've been stockpiling the beer and bourbon too, so if any of you don't have other plans... Got two big grills, on a well and septic, got a powerful generator, access to a lotta beef and a bunch of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood DVDS (as well as every season of Miami Vice on Blu-Ray).
Hopefully you are relocating to a more free state than the one with Puget Sound. 🤞

Oh, yeah. We're gonna be done here. Arkansas, Tennessee, and a couple other Southern states are at the top of the list. Won't have to sit through freezing rain at football games anymore, too... But will have to reacquaint with humidity and ticks again, alas...

IMO there won't be any shooting of consequence. If you know what really hits the fan, there'll be mushroom clouds in the sky and your best bet is to hope you're at ground zero of one of them vs being an unlucky survivor and dying a much slower death.
My main concern is ammo availability. With much of the world shooting at much more of the world ammo and components will not get into our marketplace.

Romans once said the same thing too. They thought their society would never collapse.

We've already had societal collapse in the US. McDuffy Riot, Rodney King Riot, Hurricame Andrew, Hurricane Katrina, the 2020 Summer of Love, lawlessness in a number of cities, etc...

Heck, it was Sherman who burnt Atlanta to the ground.

Anyways, I'm not worried about a nuke strike. I am worried about another hurricane. I recall the looting that happened after Andrew. I witnessed it first hand.

The US can go to hell and the rest of the world will suffer, but go right on by and survive.
The downfall of Rome was their increasingly "soft" lifestyle. They became too thinly spread out, also, and they started using non-Romans to do their fighting, the Barbarians from Germanic tribes who despised Romans. They brought foreign peoples closer to Rome to protect Rome, although they didn't allow the non-Roman legions into Rome proper. Rome was being ruled by corrupt politicians who purged the true leaders, was spending money they didn't have, was depending on shaky alliances, and the people were too interested in games and entertainment to be serious about their survival.

Hmmmmm

That sounds familiar. Beer n Brats n NFL

Anyway, to the young shooters here, spend a few buck$ each week on ammo and not Starbuck's. ;)

Enough of any chambering(s) to shoot any favorite gun(s) for One Year. A panic can last for at least a few months.

Reading about the OP!s grandsons was comical.
Maybe they learned something about “planning for Murphy’s Law.”

Gotta get pet stuff from the farm store.
Grab a couple boxes of ammo while there.
Will burn some at Trap range this week, and like to have a certain amount set aside.
If its at good price, just get it while available.

Heck I haven't found low brass 6 shot loads in 20 ga for a year.
Really don't need or want high brass. Nobody has "normal" bunny fodder.

Got a couple target .22 lr rigs. Need a replacement brick of SK Plus.
Its gone up a bit but a shop nearby gets it.
Aint gonna haggle, just grab one next time I pass by.

BTW I have some Norma wood grain cardboard box .30-06 ammo from when my dad got spooked way back and stocked some for
his lefty Savage LOL

Wife and I are planning a move to Indiana once I retire. Those are certainly cons, especially ticks, man I hate those things. First order of business will be to get the Colorado plates off of my vehicles, there just embarrassing.

Seems as though Indianapolis may be the start of the tick zone (heading south).
Once I kill a turkey at Greene Sullivan State Forest I'll never go back.

I still use Permethrin turkey hunting mid north central. Just in case.

I have boxes in the barn/shed. Looked at them. Some of the brass was a little discolored but they seem fine. Don't think I need to make a trip. If it all goes to pot then I guess I can haul out the cap & balls. Lol.

Maybe overkill, but when fam wants to go to the range I take my old stuff for em to burn.
Try to rotate through. Keeps things more fresh.

Buddy gave me some #6 shotshells, high brass, for rabbit.
Old K mart sticker on one. Look fine. But man that price...........makes a guy wanna cry LOL

There's never a bad time to stock up on ammo. I could stand to grab a few boxes of, well, just about everything I shoot. Not that I'm about to run out, but it's not like the ammo will go bad if I don't refrigerate it after opening...

Grab a couple 10/22s and watch how folks will burn through a brick of CCI Blazer !
I need to grab some clay pigeons and another brick or two.
Good reminder!

In my opinion we're past the time to start buying ammo and components. But I suppose starting late is better than not at all? Having been through past shortages I learned to keep a stock on hand.

The best time to buy was yesterday, or five years ago. The next best time is now. It's always the right time to stockpile ammo!

When isn't it the right time to stock ammo..? ...and I would say handloading components as well (assuming one handloads.) The last 3 big shortages proved to me it's better to have, than have not.

Is It Time to Stockpile Ammo?

When was it NOT time to stockpile ammo?
Ammo will get one thru times of no money better than money will get one thru times of no ammo.

It’s an election year.

I hate that this is the indicator but yes, buying NOW would be prudent and not waiting until December.

There have been more than just a few election years in my lifetime that have been historical precedents that have indicated it being a bad time to buy ammo after them.

How many you may ask?

Well, ALL of them without exception in my lifetime since I was old enough to understand what an election was. This began for me in 1992 when I was 10.

I am less worried about civil disorder and more worried about having hunting ammo so this makes my needs smaller than the preppers. But I still have at least 500 rnds of every cartridge I have a gun for and many hundreds of others I don’t have a gun for. Several thousand 308 and 223 and I don’t even own a 308.

Plan wisely.

It was time to Stockpile (store Reserve ammo)….

…Starting in mid- 2008. I never stopped until about 2022. Part of the buying was only to Replace of many Thousands of rds. of 7,62x39 which was frequently consumed.

Most people can require about sixteen years to get the message.

Humans have a few "traits" that run deep. One is an amazing number of them have VERY short memories. I have seen so many "panic shortages" of ammo I can't off hand remember how many. It only took one for me to not get caught again. For decades I have tried to tell shooters you do not have to break the bank here. Buy more a little at a time. Buying more than you use. Stored properly ammo will live longer than the shooter. Seems every panic shortage brings out a LOT of angry shooters who have seen these before and ignored it when ammo came back.
