As long as it fits into your seat/crimp die, it is not too much.

WAY TOO MUCH flare. The proper amount of flare is almost undetectable by eye.

You can get away with a lot less.
I set mine to flare my shortest brass just enough to keep from shaving lead. It gets you a few more reloads because the necks aren't being overworked.

This much flare is more than sufficient for .431 cal cast bullets but it's about perfect for the flatbase jacketed bullets I usually load.

I say set the flare die just to where the bullet doesn't catch and crush the shell.

You want just enough flare so the fattest bullet seats in the shortest case without shaving. Any more is just strain-hardening your brass.

Look into the Lyman Expander M Die , will make life easier for seating.

@roval , like said, you only want enough flare to start the bullet and not shave it when seating. Main problem with that much flare is brass life. When you get the new settings please post pictures.

Much better. I try to flare only slightly more than is needed to keep the case from shaving slivers off the bullet.

I guess it doesn't make much difference as long as you're guiding it up into the Seating die.

Using the Redding copy of the Lyman M-die, the bullet will stay in the case when inverted
