Is Ruger SR9 really an IMPROVED Glock?

Just because something is new doesn't mean it's improved/better. And, "improved/better" is entirely subjective. What you think maybe "improved" is not the same as what others think. Speaking as a huge fan of the old Ruger P-series, you can't discount the SR9 enough for me to buy it. For me, it's just too uncomfortably thin, the trigger sucks major league, the thumb safety is tiny and difficult to maneuver, and lastly but probably most important, it has no good track record.
If you think it's "improved" over Glock, that's just fine. You're entitled to your opinion. The Glock works for it beautiful simplicity. And with the new RTF, that's just about "perfect", for me.

Is the Ruger SR-9 really and improved Glock?

No, that would be the Smith and Wesson M&P !

Maybe.

I'll concede that the switchable back-strap is an improvement.

Other than that, I don't really see anything that the M&P has "improved" upon.

I have an SR9 and although is a fine pistol, it's not quite as good as a stock glock in my opinion. It does have qualities that I find the Glocks don't have, mostly feel and ability to aim and keep on target, but it's not quite a Glock.

However - I've probably fired 1000 rounds from mine and it's been perfect. So it's a GREAT pistol for the price.

You mean to tell us that you can't aim a Glock or keep a Glock on target????

Wow.

First, Ruger is only a 61 year old company.

Second, Ruger has a reputation for making affordable, thick, clunky, affordable, decently accurate, heavy, decently reliable, handguns with far from great triggers.

None of the 6 Glocks I have owned have had a weapon induced malfunction, but maybe it's because I don't use clips.

Holy lack of punctuation Batman!!!

I thought some of ya'all might be interested in this. It's a review of the new SR-9C. It states that the trigger of the SR-9C is much improved. They will be using the new trigger in all the SR-9's from now on. The thing is they say the new trigger can't be retrofitted to the existing SR-9's. www.americanrifleman.org/BlogEntry.aspx?id=2066&cid=25 While I am a fan of the P-series Rugers this makes me glad I didn't get an SR-9 when they first came out like I wanted to.

Google CCF(?) Raceframes.
Google Cimollini safety catch.

I don't think either of those products are a great success. I don't think CCF Raceframes are even sold anymore.

Dudes, Glocks are PERFECTION!!!!! The ads say so!!!

Seriously though, the hubris to make such a claim. No manmade material object is perfect. I object to the claim, even though it is only an ad slogan, on principle. I can't support a company that is so far removed from reality as to lie about their product so blatantly. Silly? Maybe, but it's how I feel.

I love the way the people on this thread are arguing with guys' posts which are a year and a half old. I think they might be loooong gone.

I got to check out a SR9 that belongs to my buddy.
IMO, the SR9 is no where near an improved Glock. The trigger was at least 10 pounds, the reset was decently long for a striker fired pistol, and the sights were a bit too small for my tastes. Unless the one I was looking at was broke, I was not impressed.
My local dealer has the SR9 for around $550. I can get Glocks much cheaper than the SR9.
My friend said that his SR9 shot great though.

I'll get an SR9C. I was going to buy a Glock but hate those finger grooves that they have seen fit to saddle everyone with. i mean honestly, no one likes them, but Glock stubbornly refuses to produce a variation without them.

Mr. Whimsy,
If I am not mistaken, the Generation 1 glocks do not have the finger grooves, and there are a lot of them floating around right now due to Police trade ins. I know of several people that just file/sand their's off. I agree with you though, I wish Glock would start putting out different variations of their models, but they are picking up with their RTF2's and gen4's now. May be just a matter of time.

You a big fan of hyperbole?

I know lots of people who have absolutely no problem with Glock's finger grooves, myself included.

thats the reason i own a SR9 now is cuz its better then a Glock , i am a tightwad and i make every penny count so i choose to buy the SR9 its more affordable then the glock and shoots just as good

Ruger=:cool:

Glock=:barf:

Even Ruger disagrees.
The Ruger SR9c is a much improved SR9. The trigger is unexpectedly good. In fact, it’s so good that one of the editors joked around with our Ruger rep and asked who made the trigger for them. The new trigger is going to be put into all SR9’s from here on out. Unfortunately, you can’t retro fit your old SR9 with this new trigger.

Ruger=

Glock=

So by that logic, I'd assume that Hi-Point is the HK of your universe.

bushyguy folks, and the constant opinions stated as fact. do a check on his other posts to illuminate an illustrious history of questionable posting.
