Is that all it takes?

A #10 patch is not a secure "Fire Wall" if that is all you are using. Back in the day they use what ever they had for patches. They wanted a lose ball going down. They also wanted a ball that was easy to pull.
They used an over powder wad of something? Old guns have been found with leaves and grass in them. The over powder wads served as the firewall. As mentioned cotton drill pocket liner is good.

While we're on the subject, do yall think a .530" ball with a .018" pre cut "piller tickin" patch would be good for a .54 Lyman GPR? I was using .010" wonder patches the other day and maybe they were blowing through? I couldn't find a patch.

Maybe or maybe not, I know they're kind of tough to find sometimes but looking at those burnt patches can tell you a lot about what's going on inside that barrel when it fires.

BC, my Lyman GPR 50 will shoot 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with 50 grains of 2f all the way to 90 grains of 2f. Haven't shot any heavier load, but suspect it will shoot the same all the way to max. Gotta luv that 60 twist. My target load is 50 grains of 2f out to 50 yards and 70 grains beyond 50 out to 100 yards. That results in nearly point of aim point of impact sight picture.

That sounds about right. Probably will be tight, but that's okay.
I use .530 + .015 in my .54 t/c.

Awesome! I haven't found .015" pillow ticking, I need to go to the fabric department with my calipers I suppose. I just have a bag of pre-cut patches made from the .018" pillow ticking.

Don't laugh, that's how you do it.....
If your rifle shoots good and clean with the .018 then use that.

Thank you I will. When I was shooting my flintlock GPR I wasn't quite getting good groups at 50 meters. Might have been me flinching for sure but someone else said the .010" ox yoke wonder patches might have been getting blown through and that I should try the thicker patches. I was just afraid the ones I bought were too thick and I didn't want to get the ball stuck on the first loading!
