Is the Hillary rush already happening?

It's not a new development. We've set a record on that 13 months in a row.

Terrorist attacks, civil unrest, police being assassinated, lots of bad news these past months, so she doesn't get all the "credit", but Hillary has left no ambiguity as to what she plans to do! Lets hope all these gun buyers get out and vote to help us in November!

There are always folks that wait until the last minute to get ready.

Nope the rush wont start till January 20th... (If it even comes to that..)

New guns are cheaper than they have ever been. Likely the real reason we are breaking records month after month.

I also agree that the increase in background checks is due to increased unrest and fear of one’s safety vis-à-vis a Clinton presidency. You would also have to equate the background check to the type of firearm being purchased. Broad statistics have little meaning.

Obama has done all a president can do with executive orders; it will take Congress to pass new restrictive gun legislation. And you cannot abolish the 2nd amendment overnight. I do not see us losing the House and it will take more than H. Clinton to take on the NRA.

The fact that people are still selling "high capacity" magazines on the secondary market for less than their purchase price suggests that the overall level of panic is low. After so many prior panics, a lot of gun owners are surely pretty fully stocked on a lot of stuff.

Prices are low, supply is high, the population continues to grow, not all background checks are associated with a firearm sale.

not all background checks are associated with a firearm sale.
While this is true, I really think it can be a good proxy. I've seen far more background checks with multiple firearms on it than I've seen a sale not go through. Logic would dictate that more checks equal more sales (just not a 1 for 1). I check the NICS stats almost every month just for my own curiosity and the buying has definitely increased.

I don't think this July record is from Hilary, more so things like the latest shootings, the recent out of left field Massachusetts gun ban and Obama's EO's.

2015 had 23 million NICS checks, we are currently on pace for 27 million this year and I bet it will be even higher come October/November. Even if by that time it looks like Trump has a slam dunk there will be increased buying 'just in case'.

I know I just bought my first AR15 as a direct result of my worries about the upcoming election. I generally don't feel that way either. I have seen these panics in the past and have just ignored it as I just didn't see major changes happening. This time around it feels different to me.

I wanted to put together a new upper for an AR 10 lower I recently built. PSA has nothing that I need in stock. I don't know if that is indicative of the entire market, I just haven't run into this in the past 5 or 6 builds that I have done.

damn near every place I look for stripped lowers is sold out on all but the most expensive ones.
AIM Surplus listed 420 Anderson lowers on 8/2 at 5pm. by 5:30pm they were all gone.

This was just recent. Some friends and I just each ordered several Andersons for $40/ea. I'm hoping I can grab another 5 or 10 for the same price before election time.

Not all background checks are associated with an attempted firearms sale.

Some background checks are done just so the government can keep tabs on lawful gun owners, such as KY running monthly background checks on all licensed carriers. More licenses in KY, more monthly background checks.

Some checks, quite a few I suspect given the requirement in some states, are done for transfers of existing firearms.

Some checks are when folks first apply for a carry license, either as a first time, or after moving.

Some are done at a shop when no sale or transfer takes place.

I don't know of a better metric or proxy that is readily available and the above things might be somewhat consistent month to month, but they might not either, especially as states pass "Universal background check" laws

i started panic buying reloading supplies 3 months ago.
im good on guns, just need to be able to feed the xl650.

If you are not stocking up on guns and especially ammo now you are making a huge mistake. Ammo prices are cheaper now than they have been in a long time. Now is the time to stockpile.

Winter is coming.
