Based on the photos what do you think?
When the hired man walked out into the shed this morning he heard barking. He walked towards the back and this little guy ran out and bit him on the leg. Luckily it mostly got his boot and didn't break the skin. My dad said he'd seen this dog in the area acting wierd over the past few days. He tried to coax it out for 20 minutes but the thing just barked continuously and showed its teeth the whole time. We decided to put it down.
I heard stories about coydogs growing up but from what I've read they're more of a myth in the wild because of the social and pup rearing differences between coyotes and dogs. I'm pretty convinced this may be a wild hybrid though.
It's coloring is very similar to coyotes in my area. The size was right too at about 30 lbs. The fur was shorter than other coyotes I've seen and the tail was different. The face definitely looks like a shepherd or collie to me. Also, I can't imagine a coyote coming inside a building like that.
My dad says he thinks it may have been hit by a car a few days back and got hit in the head. No signs of disease but I handled him with gloves for sure. Wierd animal.
