Based on the photos what do you think?

When the hired man walked out into the shed this morning he heard barking. He walked towards the back and this little guy ran out and bit him on the leg. Luckily it mostly got his boot and didn't break the skin. My dad said he'd seen this dog in the area acting wierd over the past few days. He tried to coax it out for 20 minutes but the thing just barked continuously and showed its teeth the whole time. We decided to put it down.

I heard stories about coydogs growing up but from what I've read they're more of a myth in the wild because of the social and pup rearing differences between coyotes and dogs. I'm pretty convinced this may be a wild hybrid though.

It's coloring is very similar to coyotes in my area. The size was right too at about 30 lbs. The fur was shorter than other coyotes I've seen and the tail was different. The face definitely looks like a shepherd or collie to me. Also, I can't imagine a coyote coming inside a building like that.

My dad says he thinks it may have been hit by a car a few days back and got hit in the head. No signs of disease but I handled him with gloves for sure. Wierd animal.

I'm going to vote coydog. It does not look like a typical coyote to me. Coydogs aren't that common, primarily because it takes a certain kind of dog to gain the respect of and not get eaten by a coyote. It does produce fertile offspring, however.

The animal certainly does have unusual markings, especially on hits back half. While I suppose a coyote and feral dog could mate, I am of the opinion that this is a feral dog.

I think a coyote/shepard mix. It looks very similar to a dog I had years ago, she had coyote in her. Her brother looked completly different but they used to yip and howl. When we moved from Az to NC it kind of unerved our nieghbors at first. Luckly we live in out in the county. Couple of the best dogs I've ever had. Although different breed mixes can produce all kinds of looks.

I had a neighbor who owned a timberwolf/shepherd mix that was one of the sweetest dogs I ever met. Huge dog. He would raise kittens abandoned by the owners cat every year.

First of all, I think there is a good chance the animal was rabid.

The face is not a coyote face. The tail to me, however, appears shorter than it should on a dog of that size and in proportion to what I've seen in Ohio coyotes. I think it's a dog/coyote mix.

I voted feral dog. While there may be a slight resemblance to a coyote it looks to me more like a mutt with some type of shepherd.

Dog. Aside from some rear end coloring, the proportions, feet, face do not look at all like a coyote.

I have seen, and killed, many feral dogs, and I am not exactly in the boat to jump to the conclusion and say that a feral dog and a coyote will breed.

I will go with feral dog.

Most of the people I've talked to think coydogs happen, but they're rare and don't survive long in the wild.
Only way to be sure is probably a scientific study of the animal, DNA tests I suppose.
I'd call this one most likely a feral shepard mix.

Definitely part German shepherd could be some coyote in there the colors are about right but im not really inclined to beleave the coydog myth

Here's coyote/Shepherd mix. I've been trying to catch up with these pups all summer.

I thinkOP's is just a mutt dog.

Here's a picture of Millie:

The screen keeps getting blurry, I must need a new monitor. :(

I was gonna say heeler, but the head didn't seem right.
They're a relatively new breed, so there's lots of variations. Millie was small, at about 35 pounds, but most are larger.

BTW, Millie hated coyotes with a passion. She lost part of an ear in one altercation.

:) Nice looking dog. Blue Heelers are pretty popular around here.
And they are double tough, they'll go into the thickest brush and bring out the meanest. rankest, cattle around.

I'd say some sort of Shepherd mix, but very small. Most of the feral dogs I come into contact with run in packs and some individual dogs from packs have been very aggressive toward me, but those have been pit bulls or pit bull mixes.

My dad said he'd seen this dog in the area acting wierd over the past few days. He tried to coax it out for 20 minutes but the thing just barked continuously and showed its teeth the whole time. We decided to put it down.

I can't say I see any coyote traits for sure, but from the description I wouldn't be surprised if it was rabid. I'd have someone look into that... or get the vaccine/IG.

Love Blue Heelers, and Australian Sheppard's. That thing in the beginning looks like a German Sheppard in the face, and the body reminds me of one of those blue merle Aussies.

It could be, coy/dogs are really not all that uncommon, as to the circumstances, your hired hand needs to be seen immediately, and very likely will require treatment for the prevention of rabies.
