Not really sure where to post this thread so sorry if this isnt the place. It was early Saturday morning. My wife was getting ready to go to work, it was about 4am, i got up to get my son his bottle. My wife had work at 6am, we had visitors over the weekend so i parked on the street. I just had this weird feeling that i should get the car and move it front on the gate so she didnt have to walk. It was around 5:05 and she was about to leave, i told her "you know what, just stay here with the baby, i'll go get the car". I put my gun away (i heard something suspicious a few minutes before) and walked outside. I was about to turn on the corner and noticed a car stopped in front of me with their signal on to turn right.. the car was about 10 yards away from me, i looked and noticed several people inside just sitting there, i had a feeling they were up to no good. There was no reason for them to wait that long, there were no cars around, as i turned the corner i saw someone get out from the driver side of the car and ran towards me with a large object, it looked like a big hammer on one hand and a knife on the other and he said "wassup foo, wassup whatchu got" I was incoherent at this time, it's early in the morning.. i just stepped back and tried put my thoughts together... Another guy came out the passenger side and ran close to me with his fist up in the air and then demanded my cash.. This is exactky what i said "do i look like i have money on me".. i'm wearing my boxer shorts and a t-shirt.. dont worry my boxers werent that short, i was worried about the guy with that sledgehammer, it happened so quickly, next thing you know they ran back and sped off with their lights off. I couldnt believe what just happened to me. Crime is rising in my area, robberies and assaults are up and it really...really sucks that i couldnt do anything about it. I felt helpless.

I've read so many posts on here about this kind of thing happening that I now have changed my habits to ALWAYS have my .38 strapped to my ankle even at home.

I would have taken it "outside" my home but our law prohibits it, that is why i left it behind. Reason why i had it on me was because i heard a glass break outside. I'm not even sure if i could carry it on me at our parking garage.

Your local or state laws prohibit you from carrying on your own private property?

I'd advise you to check into that because it may not be the case that you are not permitted to carry a weapon in the open or concealed on your own property. Out in public, sure, but at home in your yard?

Last year, right around when I first got my CCW, I used to drive pizzas a few days a week for some extra $$ (I'm in the Army National Guard as well). I would usually keep my P99AS in my car while it was light out, but I would keep it in a concealed holster under my shirt in the back once it got dark out. I tell ya, in some neighborhoods, I would tuck my shirt behind the pistol so it was visable. I can't remember how many times I have been going to a from my car while getting really shady looks from people just hanging out in the street or in cars. And it was the same every time, they would size me up as I was leaving my car, see my pistol, and I could tell they were avoiding looking at me on the way back to my car. Now I didn't care too much for the money I would be carrying, as we never had more than 20$ on us at any time. But imagine how pissed off some thug would be after going through the trouble of sticking me up for only $12 and change. Delivering pizzas at 2am was one of the biggest factors in me deciding to become a CCWer.

SILENT KNIGHT - "... Crime is rising in my area, ..."

Where is "your area"???

L.W.

I live in Southern California, Los Angeles. I live in a very quiet community, away from the smog and gang violence but the last two years, we've noticed more and more graffiti, more sirens and gang activity in our area. The guys who did this were obvious gang ,embers with the attires. My neighbiors relative who lives 2 blocks away was assaulted and robbed in front of his own home after comming home from work, this happeened around 6 in the evening. Our carry laws here is a joke. We have to get shot, stabbed or killed first before we can defend ourself.

thought for sure he lived in new jersey.
22mag black widow stays perfect in the alastic of my boxers. havent tried it in public yet

Silent Knight I hate to say it but you should consider moving

It sounds like you are still young, with a baby and all. I know everyone says leave Californie and apparently 250,000 Californians do leave each year. I may be a wee bit biased but I suspect you would like the Tampa area it is a lot like LA used to be and we allow people to protect themselves here. We also have 3% unemployment and our housing (compared to LA is relatively inexpensive). I would really think about it.

wear tight speedos under boxers? lol

If you purchase a firearm for SD, it should always be on you no matter where you are.

silent knight - I know how you feel about your laws concerning SD. Back home in Venezuela, our laws and justice are questionable. For a country that has about 200 gun related deaths per week due to crime, if the cops catch a robber/murderer/rapist in the act, he or she probably walks or maybe spend a few days to a year behind bars unless the victim or his family spends a large sum of cash and favors. But should a decent law abiding citizen, God forbid, shoots or kills someone that tries to rob him or kill him would go to prison unless again there's cash and favors.

The understanding of SD is quite vague. Half say they have to shoot you down before you can shoot back and the other half says when you feel your life is in inminent danger....

when I lived in San Francisco

I carried anyway.
A cop friend of mine said "shoot & leave the scene"
It's a misdemeanor to carry as long as you own it legally.
I also used "Bear Guardian" pepper spray when confronting miscreants.
Do NOT carry an asp or club! thats a felony!!!

I shouldn't be too quick to suggest that someone should move since I live in Massachusetts. Nevertheless, there is no future in LA for someone who isn't wealthy. The quality of life for the middle class will just keep declining.

You need to brush up on Cal gun laws. You most definitely can carry concealed in your house, place of business or while on your own property in California.

You have to ask yourself what is more important to you, obeying unconsttutional laws, or protecting yourself? I know what I would do in such a case.

You were very lucky they didn't decide to see what you had in your house. That could have VERY VERY badly for you and your wife and son, I'm suprised that if you had the feeling that things were "off" why you (1) went outside unarmed and (2) didn't retreat immediately back inside when you saw the car in front, to say nothing of when the thugs jumped out and came after you. Not trying to be overly critical, but I hope this incident teaches you to trust your gut a little more.

That feeling of being violated will never really go away. It happened to me in my own home, but I was armed, we never saw each other, they didn't take anything, and they didn't damage anything. I still felt violated.

While we here on The High Road don't advocate breaking the law *ahem*...

Some things are more important than an illegal law or a forum's rules. I won't talk about it, but you need to make your own decisions about what is important.
