J Frame Prices Post Them Here

NIB 642: $359.95 from my local dealer.

My dealer advertises that he wants the opportunity to match your best price. I search the local stores & the internet looking for pricing.

If I find the best price on the internet - which is usually where the best price is found - I calculate what it will cost me to buy the gun, shipping, shipping insurance, & the local transfer cost. Insurance is usually about $1 per $100 of value; shipping & transfer combined are usually just under $50.

I then go to my dealer with that as an out-the-door price. I know he probably paid the same amount for the gun from the wholesaler as the internet dealer; they both have to deal with costs associated with getting the gun shipped to their location. I'm willing to give him the money I'd pay for shipping, the insurance, & the higher transfer costs (but I won't add the sales tax on top - that is in the out-the-door price) for the opportunity to handle & examine the gun before I spend my money. I spend the same amount & patronize my local dealer, he in turn gets all of my business & doesn't have to match an internet price.

So far, it has worked out well for both of us! :D

I just bought a new M&P 360 for $619 on Tuesday.

I live up near Cleveland OH but drove down to Columbus to buy it and a new XD 9 for $399.

Bring it Back for an Update

For those of you considering a J Frame it might be helpful to see some prices and for those have recently purchased to update this thread.

Locally (SE AL) the 637/642 is a little under $400 + Tax, Something like $379 to $389.
I've got a 637 on the way. NIB from Auctionarms, 345 + transfer ($20), so $365 total...I thought that was a good deal.

Model 60-14 bought new a year ago. $479.99

642 last week cost me $400 new out the door

ETA: nice grips Cron. Were those stock?

M&p 340

About 3 months ago I paid $802 for a M&P 340 with S&W Crimson Trace 405 Grips. That included shipping. Plus $35 for transfer.

Cron that is a pretty Model 60.

I have been shopping for a new 642 in the north Mississippi/Memphis, TN area. Locally I can get one for $460 and in Southaven, MS (just south of Memphis) I can get one for $399 at Sportsman's Warehouse. Is $399 in line with current prices?

Time to Update

I see there is some interest in J Frame prices.

How about an update for those who have purchased recently.

In December '07 got my M&P 340 for $599 shipped + $20 transfer.

This month found a NIB pre-lock 649 (no-dash) and paid $475 shipped.

Sold a 442-1 with Kramer pocket holster for $480 shipped.

Southeast Michigan:

Two shops had 637, 638, and 642 for $399 each.

Another, had each for $415.

It seems like Cabelas is having a sale on the J-Frames, a different model every couple of weeks or so. Two weeks ago it was the 637 for $359, this past week it was the 638 for the same price. 642 next week?

My 442 was $325 direct from S&W after attending their Academy with a $10 S&H and a transfer fee of $25.

New 642 for $399 at Sportsmans. And a reminder: Check the barrel for uniform rifling and crown. Only one out of three was usable!
