Jewelry Store did not allow concealed carry

My buddy and I stopped into a jewelery store a couple of months ago on the way home form a match. He had on a shirt that got the owner talking about guns with us, at which point one of the clerks showed us the Glock he had on his hip and the owner retrieved his gun from behind the counter to ask us if it was a good one. After some more discussion, he mentioned that he had always wanted a 1911. I told him I had a couple out in the truck, if he would like to see them. He responded in the affirmative, and said to bring them in. So there we were in the store with our pistols spread out on the counter, talking guns with the owners while other customers shopped. The conversation eventually included 3-gun matches causing the other owner to bring out a tac shotgun from behind the counter to ask if that would work. All in all, a great day. Plus my buddy found what he was looking for and they even gave him a discount.

As he was grabbing a few stones for me to look over i asked him why they chose to hang the 30.06 sign given an armed robbery probably would not be dissuaded by it.

Of course a sign won't dissuade a robbery. The businesses know that. Otherwise, they would put up "NO ROBBERY ALLOWED" signs, LOL.

Given the nature of the business and the higher probability of robberies the belief is that it would be safer for patrons and employees if robberies are not resisted.

I am not sure about the high probability for robbery aspect. Yes they do get robbed. Lots of businesses get robbed. However, amongst the most common of jewelry store robberies are smash and grab robberies.

I certainly would prefer they change the policy and i expressed my opinion but under the circumstances i felt they had earned my business. Do you agree?

Not really. I am not sure what they earned. You spoke with a functionary, nothing more, changing nothing of the corporation responsible for the signs. You didn't speak to a person that mattered in the decision making process or that would necessarily relate your concerns to the corporate elite.

That isn't to say that you should not do business there, but that nothing was gained from a 2nd amendment standpoint by your chat.
