Obviously, everthing related to our great hobby (guns, ammo, powder, primers, bullets, etc.) has either 1. increased in price 2. gone out of stock or 3. increased in price and gone out of stock. I don't think anyone will dispute this.
With that being said, I don't like the fact that an anti-gun/anti-cool president was elected. However, I think that we might be to blame for the price increases and supply problem more than the president. Here is my reasoning: We panicked. When it got closer to election time, we started buying up everything, especially assault rifles, ammunition, and reloading supplies. The assault rifle issue might have merit since Obama is against assault rifles in the hands of the civilian population, although I believe that the gun laws are more of a state issue and there are more pressing matters at hand than banning guns such as the economy and Iraq.
As far as ammo and reloading supplies, I think it would be in our best interests to calm down. We are being gouged for prices because there are silly rumors going on that they won't sell powder anymore or what not. However, when we buy all the supply, why wouldn't a company price gouge? They are still going to sell it all anyways since we think it won't be available any longer.
This is what I am suggesting. The president isn't gun friendly. However, we don't need to make matters worse by panicking and buying everything based on some misinformed rumors that aspects of our hobby will be banned. Write to your state representatives, state senators, congressmen, senators, and other elected officials voicing your concerns about possible legislation that will jeopardize the 2nd Amendment. In the meantime, we need to be stoic and only focus on controlling our own actions. After all, we have demonstrated that when supplies are low and demand is high, like it is now, then our hobby becomes much less affordable and in turn, much less fun. Let's turn it around.
