Ok after a long time waiting it came today! ! ! i now hold a c&r ffl so not i want to order that first pistol what should i get must be under 400 bucks. also i copy the atf paper and have not signed in but do you copy the back to when you mail it to a dealer????

You have a vast array of options for your first C&R purchase. Do you have any particular interests? Historical time period? Particular countries? Check out Empire Arms (www.empirearms.com) or allans armory http://www.allans-armory.comfor their C&R pistol offerings.

You probably won't find a Russian military mak in the $400 range, but you can surely find an East German Mak for $400 with C&R status.

If you like East European stuff, then the Polish p-64 just became C&R eligible, as well as the CZ-82. Both are way under $400. Then theres the CZ-50 and CZ-52, and on and on.

Give us a bit more parameters of what you're looking for and I'm sure some good ideas will percolate...

I'm curious, how long did it take for you to get your license?
I applied for mine not too long ago.
I have read around Christmas it was a 60 day process.

Depends on whose desk it lands on. I applied for my most recent one and they charged my card on October. I finally received it the beginning of April. Unfortunately, mine landed on the desk of a lady with a thick Vietnamese accent who could barely speak English, and so it took 4-5 months a few phone calls and some email communications. The first time I got one it took about 3-4 weeks. As far as copying it, you don't have to copy the back, just copy the original and sign the copies. It's nice to get the extra discounts that come with them.

Jeez, applications must be up like crazy!!! I got my C&R two years ago (almost exactly). It was two weeks from the time I mailed out the application to the time the license showed up at my door.

As for what pistol... Far and away, the CZ82 (technically CZ vz.82) is a total winner.
For $220 at AIM you get the pistol, spare mag, and holster.
Slightly better price at Classic Arms (scroll to bottom of page).

Go get yourself a few milsurp rifles while you're at it. I got a Mosin M44 two years ago when I got my license, and it still rides in the trunk of my car. Perfect trunk gun if you ask me.

Check out SothernOhioGun, the polish P64 is now C&R
so is the Yugo tokarev
the CZ-82 is the military version of the cz83

lots of great stuff out there, welcome to the poor house....

You should have received a stack of books from ATF. Read them. Understand what you can and can't do with your license.

They did not send you a bound book. You need to maintain one. You don't need to buy one, print this out http://www.type03.net/BoundBooks/Bound_Book.pdf and use a three ring binder, number the pages.

Make copies of your license. DON'T sign the original. Keep it in a safe place. Sign the copies (with ink other than black) and send them to all the major distributors and anyone you think you'll want to deal with. Some will accept emailed or faxed copies.
See a good list here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=14&t=295487

(Oh, finally deciphered what you asked about copying the back. You just need to copy the top half of the front page. The rest is all just "welcome letter" stuff. )

Keep a copy of your 03 in your wallet, glove box, etc... you never know when you'll run across a good deal! Send copies to Brownell's, Midway, etc, if you buy from them... they give discounts to C&R's too.

I carry extra C&R apps as well. I keep spreading the infection!

The makarov is a very controlable good shooting gun, it also has the best safe method to carry with a round in the chamber. They are ultra reliable and military proven. They are relatively quiet guns, all plusses. But depending on your frame and body structure you may find it impossible to carry/conceal cause it is big and heavy IMO. They aren't much more of a man-stopper than a .380, seems JHP is only available in steel cased these days which I haven't had much luck with, those are the negatives.

Do you want a gun to strap on FBI style, IWB, or pocket carry? What is you're weight/heigth ?

As mentioned, the P64 just went on the list...they make great carry pieces.

The CZ52 in 7.62x25 is a fantastic pitol. Very old school but shooting the milsurp ammo is cheap, and you get a big boom with lots of muzzle flash. Very entertaining.

Unless you want to pocket carry, if we're talking about the 9x18 pistols, I see no reason to carry anything but a CZ-82. They're pretty easy to conceal iwb, but you do need a strong belt as they're heavy. Carry condition 1 or 2, your choice, and they have an extremely sweet DA trigger. Higher capacity than the others, and they'll eat that steel cased garbage like a fat kid eats a cupcake.

Personally, I would first purchase a Yugo M57 from SOG while they're still $189 (while others are typically selling them for far more elsewhere) and then a CZ-82 as soon as possible afterwords.

These scream "FUN!"
