I get on these gun kicks every once in awhile, thinking how cool it'd be to have this gun or that gun. But I'm a pragmatist in the truest sense and find myself slapping myself back into reality shortly afterwards.
For example, I got to thinking how cool it would be to get a .45acp carbine.
As my only pistol is a G21 I thought it'd be cool to have a little .45acp carbine as a stand by or vice versa.

And my search was on, AR carbines, H&K USC, Beretta Storm, Marlin Camp 45, etc, etc. I really liked the Camp 45 and started looking for them, not many available on the used market anymore.

As I considered it I realized why? I already have an awesome much more capable carbine, my SLR-95. And whammo, my pistol caliber carbine search comes to a screeching halt.

Whenever I think about doing a pig hunt, I begin thinking about what would be a good pig gun, something short and compact, yet powerful enough to make an easy 150 yard shot, semi-auto would be nice. Whammo! I've got the perfect pig gun, my SLR-95.

I see the little M1 Carbines every now and then and think how neat they are and how much I'd like to get one of those, then I consider that I already have a handy little carbine with alot more power, my SLR-95.

You know, it's not the most accurate carbine I own, it doesn't have the range of other rifles, but it is accurate enough, totally reliable, semi-auto and carries 30 round magazines. I've killed deer with it and they're DRT. What else do I need? As far as I can tell, there isn't much that little carbine can't do within reason, and do it pretty darn well.

1. Thanks so much for your service to our country (which I assume considering your location.)

2. So do you have a question? If you're looking for another long gun, what about the venerable Ruger 10-22? You can get jiggy with it - folding stocks, accurizing, etc, and when you get back in conus, you can have an afternoon of fun on the range or in the woods and only be out 5 bucks on ammo!

I'm contracting with the Army.

I don't have a question so much as just an appreciation for the AK rifle and just how compact and utilitarian of a rifle it is. Everytime I consider other firearms, it just always occurs to me that I already have a rifle that is fully capable of doing whatever I need.

Our Son is retired USMC. He was in Desert Storm and the inital trip in Baghad on the second go around we had over there in Iraq. He was in the AmTracs that carried infantry. Everyone they carried and themselves would grab up AK's as use them since they worked under all conditions with 100% reliability.

I'm with you. I've been debating the purchase of an AR for quite some time. Each time I convince myself that I must have an AR, the practical side of me chimes in and I change my mind.

The AK is a well-rounded rifle that can be used for a number of different applications (hunting, self defense, plinking fun...). Is it the master of one application in particular? Absolutely not. But it does what I want it to, and never fails.
