Haven't be on much but I know where to come with a question. Is the felt recoil of a PM40 vs a PM9 considerable, or should I say that much greater? And is a standard load .40 s&w ballisticaly equlvalant to a +p in 9mm. For reference I now practice with a S&W 642 with a regular round, non +p, and carry 158gr lswchp +p. I would like to go with an auto for the extra clip. Another consern is weak wrist as I have arthritis and have been shown how to work the action with out much pain. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL REPLIES

very

much considerable. You IMO won't like a PM40, just to lite of a gun and not a big one either, and the 40 cal will punish you. the PM9 is just so pleasant to shoot and so controllable.

If I owned a PM40 I would definitely magna port it, then it might be more shootable and more enjoyable.

Would be a nice caliber in kahrs all steel version, like the MK40 which is the same size as the PM40.

IMO stick withthe PM9, u will love it...14ounces is sure nice to carry around..

I've never fired a MP40.... but I just got a PM9 last week.... have put 250 rounds or so through it already and really like it so far... had to tell my wife she needed to buy her own.... she shot some amazing groups with it and was starting to get that "I could like this better than the Model 60 I took over after discovering how much easier to shoot it is than the S&W 442".

I agree with Jocko, that mag-na-porting is a good suggestion for the PM40. That's what I plan to do with mine, as soon as my toy budget has more in it. Last check with them was $160 to perform the machining. For sure, as I reported on my initial post on owning the PM40 commented on the snappy recoil and twisting of my trigger finger in the trigger guard. I'm sure more range time will put these issues out of mind as I develop my skill and familiarity with the Kahr. Still, I really like this little powerhouse of a gun.

There is a fair amount of recoil with the PM40 but it doesn't bother me.

I find the most painful recoil in my 638.

one

thing for sure the PM40 is just one hell of a pocket rocket. It will wake the dead!!!!

I just feel the PM9 can do what I want it to do with far more ease, at least for me anyway. I have always been a 9mm fan, so that ahs some bearing on my thoughts to.YMMV

I would truly love to shoot a magna ported PM40, I bet it would be in the class of the non ported PM9..

The PM40 is ferocious, but not painful or unmanageable (inherent due to its design). Kinda fun to shoot.

.

I read this thread and just had to laugh. "Ferocious" recoil. Geez.

For it's size and weight this pistol has a very LOW felt recoil. I have
shot both the PM9 and PM40 and have found them to be amazing in
this respect. In fact, I think they are both a hoot to shoot and I
enjoy them a lot at the range. A PM40 with 155 grain is about +10%
in felt recoil over a PM9 with 124 grain +P. Not that much difference.

Go pop off a cylinder or two full of 44 Mag in a Model 29 S&W. Now
I can agree that that pistol can have pretty ferocious felt recoil.

By comparison, these Kahr pistols are pussycats. I have a CZ82 in
9mm Makarov. I prefer shooting the PM40 for fun over that pistol in
respect to felt recoil.

The Browning type lock-up vs. the blowback action helps here. As
does the very low barrel/grip axis. The Kahr is a very refined pistol design.

My choice for carry is a PM40.

I put some Buffalo Bore 147gr. +P+ loads through my PM9 a while back.

There's no need to "step up the power" by going to the .40. The extra round is nice, and the gun is just right with standard pressure and +P loads.

P.S. The Hogue Handall Jr. on my PM9 is the best $10 I ever spent. It seems like it was designed for this gun. Try it out.
