Guys,

I bought a Kahr PM9 last Sunday in a fit of the "gotta haves." I had been considering one for years but had been turned off by some negative reports and bad experience with a K-9 range gun. Last Sunday I decided to treat myself to a pocket pistol/easy CC gun. The Kahr fit the bill, and I figured I could trade it back for another PSP refurb if I needed to!

First 200 rounds: Winchester "white box." No malfunctions. I did fail to allow the trigger to reset a few times (being used to the P7 reset). The solution was to look stupid and then re-pull the trigger. The gun is very accurate considering its tiny barrel and sight radius. I was able to pull off fairly consistent head-shots (on a paper target at 21 and 30 feet). The gun recoils heavily for a 9mm (seriously, it is real small) but nothing unreasonable. Shooting 200 rounds was a breeze. If you want real recoil shoot Federalist Weasel's Scandium .357 snubby--yowch!

First cleaning. Ok, this was a bi+@h. The slide pin took a little extra force to get out ( no big deal). Cleaning was easy (very simple gun compared to a P7). Then I accidently inserted the slide pin wrong and the gun locked up. After about 4 days I managed to get it loose using methods from a previous thread. Be careful reassembling your Kahr.

Next 200+ rounds. First was 100 rounds of "White Box" which worked fine. I was a little scared that I might have done something terrible to the gun getting the slide pin out. Nahh, worked great. Then came the fun. I shot 60 rounds of Gold Dot, no problem. 20 rounds of Golden Saber, no problem. 20 rounds of Cor-Bon, no problem (although the Scandium .357 was starting to look a little better:uhoh: . Then I shot an assortment of ammo from my gun "collection." Some 11 year old Glasers--fine. Some OLD Cor-Bon--fine. Some old Remington 115 grain +p JHP--fine. And a few unidentified rounds-fine.

So far I am very pleased with my new pocket protector. I am confident enough with it to carry it on short trips to the garbage can, Kroger, etc.

The first time I did a field strip on my own new PM9 was on the gunshop counter.
I remember that the slide pin was a little difficult to remove. I used the PLASTIC end of a screwdriver to tap it out. The all steel MK9's pin is MUCH easier to remove. I just push it out with my thumb. It's a lot easier to get the PM9's pin out now, but it's STILL harder than the MK9's pin. I wonder what the big difference is? Anybody have an opinion on that? At first, I figured that it was just the "black" on the pin causing it to bind a little. That's still all I can come up with.<shrug>

Thanks,
Will

Kentucky,

If you look at the slide stop lever while inserting it you will see where the slide stop spring (mounted on the frame) will click into a groove on the slide stop lever just before it is completely pushed into place.

Whether or not the MK9 has this feature I can't recall, but it does account for why the PM9 has a good amount of tension on the pin.

Greg,
Congrats!
I think you'll lke your new "heater".

I complained here about how hard it was to take my gun down the first time, and several people said it would get easier.
They were right.

The first couple of times that I shot mine, the recoil seemed stout, but now it's a piece of cake.
I probably just got used to it.

I hated paying that much for a carry gun, but I've got almost 900 rounds through it, and I would say it is money well spent.

That makes two of us!

What irks me is that I know it doesn't cost anywhere near to pruduce the weapon in relation to the market value.

What really irks me is that Glock won't get on the bandwagon and design a tiny PM sized 9mm. I suspect part of Glocks reluctance is that they realize a tiny PM sized weapon would get thrown into a pocket without a holster pretty often. Not a good thing to do with Glocks. Then they would have to eqip the weapon with a safety..but wait, that would make Glock admit they aren't exactly the safest around...and it goes on and on...:D

I bought the Kahr PM9 and only thing that bothered me was pulling back the slide it seemed like there was gravel in the groves the way it felt,a few times I had to bump the slide forword when I loaded a new mag in.
From the very first round to now close to 200 rounds ..no stalls,stove-piping,jams or other problems .So far the shots go right to target from 40 feet not so with my snub nose .38 lightweight.I keep looking for something small for carry but nothing fits the size of this little 9mm.I wanted a safety so I use one of the trigger (plastic) lock holder that came with the gun and have a rubberband through the hole were the lock go's and the other end on the grip so when I poke it out I don't lose it.This way I don't worry about were the barrel is pointing.Sure its priced high but it works for me.

That's a great report, Greg -- just the kind I like to see! Glad you're enjoying your pistola! :D
