So what's the latest on Kel-Tec and their production? Will I ever be able to walk into a store or order one of these online again?

I've decided I am missing a pistol caliber carbine in my collection and have decided on this one....seems I picked a ghost.

I've heard of some selling second hand for well over MSRP, but out of principal I won't be going that route.

Last time I talked to a fairly large LGS they said that Kel-Tec's focus for now and the foreseeable future would be pumping out their KSG shotgun, and not to expect any new Sub 2k's any time soon

and they are producing sooooo many of them ;-)

"some" over MSRP?

How about "all" at 2X+ msrp.

As a dealer (FFL), I waited nearly 4 YEARS to get 3 ... sold them all within 72 hours at auction.

I wish I'd never sold mine. Fun gun, I had mine in a small laptop case. Oh well, live and learn.

There are several on gunbroker.
...selling for only half of your first born!

Keltecs left my active buying list a while back for procurement scarcity. Several gunstores have flat out given my sub2k deposit back stating their inability to aquire them... Ever.

A couple "Buy it now"s at $600-$650. Not exactly astronomical if you really want one. $200 over MSRP.

I inquired last week at my LGS. I was told that they get a couple every 6 weeks or so, and that they had a [short] waiting list I could put my name on. They said I could expect to get one within the next month. They said their price is $450. Unfortunately, that's still a little more than I'd like to pay for that gun. There are a lot of nicer firearms one could get for $450 (or slightly more), although it is admittedly very cool.

I got pretty lucky today. Walked in my lgs browsing and they got a small shipment of them in 9mm. Some were smith and Wesson and some glock. I walked away with the olive drab glock 19 model for 399. Was pretty happy with that considering you can't find one for less than 500 bucks online.

Just finished cleaning it and the barrel came extremely dirty.

I have one and its nice because of its size. But, it does have its drawbacks. Its not particulary pleasant to shoot. I also have a Beretta CX4 Carbine... its a much nicer rifle.

Mine came with a dirty barrel as well, and never looks particularly clean for that matter. I actually gave up and cleaned the black crud out with heat and rapidly-moving copper cleaning jags.

They're nice little guns, but not particularly refined as rifles. A lot of compromises were made in the design to get it to fold and be so small. I'd like to put on a nicer front sight, and maybe add some padding to the rear of the stock for the Mrs (OK, for me as well, recoil is oddly focused on the bottom corner of the "stock")

I suppose I got lucky when I ordered mine a few years ago, I asked for a Glock-compatible version, any color, either grip size ... and about a week later my LGS had dug up a black G19 compatible one.

I love my G-19 version. It feels sort of elemental, a little rough around the edges. As a lefty I frequently get a face full of burning gases and hot dirt, especially with Russian ammo. Still love it, the ability to fit in a laptop computer bag just does it for me.

As far as the crappy plastic front sight, with a little finessing, the metal AK type front sight from a Hi-Point carbine fits, looks good, and works nicely.

Don't give up if you want one, they're worth waiting for.

I'd really like to see a picture of that hi-point sight on a sub2k!

Sometimes I feel like I'm shooting a cutting-edge prototype with my sub2k, I've wondered if there is a "generation 2" or "improved" version coming for a while.
(probably not, KT sells every unit produced with the current model)

MechTech is pretty cool also, but I'd rather have a nice 1911 trigger on my carbine
So that's the MechTech I ordered, the sub2k can deal with Block mags

Gosh, I really miss my Sub-2K (S&W). I think I paid $325. Very, very, fun, surprisingly accurate. I'd like to get another, but not for today's prices. A LGS had a used .40 for $525. I might go $450 for a 9/glock.

Here ya' go. Directions are remove all the original plastic front sight, gently remove metal from inside the new sight until it slides over the barrel, tighten the 2 Allen screws, done.

This is actually the second model. The original Sub9 was all metal, now a pricey collectable.
