I am looking at a 9mm carbine for fun and plinking. I like the look of the 2000 and do not like the look of the HP. I will not spend more money on looks and get lower performance.

For those of you who have more than limited experience with either or both of these what are your thoughts? Pros vs. Cons

Thanks:D

I have handled and shot the sub 2000 and can say that it has respectable accuracy for what it is, and is really a blast to shoot. For some reason I find the whole folding in half thing to be greatly attractive. I was surprised at how solid the little rifle is, didn't feel cheap at all to me. I have heard that it is well nigh impossible for leftys to shoot though. You can also get it to take Glock or S&W magazines, meaning that you could round up some high caps, or if you have one of those pistols have magazine interchangability. I have never shot or ever seen a high point carbine in person, but those i know who have them seem to like them.

I will say that i highly doubt that you will get lower performance with the sub 2000, but i haven't tested, so i can't really be sure.

I have both and neither one has let me down. The Hi-Point was a surprise, because I was expecting it to be a POS when I bought it off my cousin. It's proven itself to be just as reliable as the Kel-Tec. Though I do think the SUB2000 is a bit more solid.

Neither of them come close to the 2x4 ruggedness of my Ruger PC9. ;)

The stock extension for the Kel-tec was a must for me. That thing is waaay short. But I do prefer the SUB2000 mainly because of it's ability to accept my Berretta 92FS mags.

I just went to 3 shops arounds town. The only one that had a 9mm carbine (or any carbine larger than a .22) had a Beretta Storm. NICE!! But for $620 I would just spend a few extra hundred and get an AR.

I have the Kel-Tec 2k and its a solid little rifle. It hasnt failed me yet. I like being able to throw it in the pistol case and use my already owned Beretta mags. Its very lightweight and inexpensive. Worth every penny IMO.

KELTEC is better...

I would choose the KELTEC it's a better quality firearm, better steels, the HI POINT is a cheap pot metal gun made similiar in quality to a Raven pistol [piece of junk] :uhoh:

I have not shot either one, but when I was at the range awhile back a fellow showed up with a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. He then went through 2 Winchester value packs (200 rds) without a jam. What impressed me though was that he was nailing a half gallon milk jug that was sitting on the berm at 100 meters, shot after shot. It was much more accurate than I thought it would be, being a cheap pot metal gun and all. He told me that it was one of the best deals he ever got.

I guess it is kinda like a Sten. Cheap and dirty, but it works. Of course the guy doing the shooting had something to do with it...

I would wager that the Kel-Tec is a better gun in the long run, but I bet that the accuracy will not be any better (@100m anyway) than the Hi-Point.

I have no use for a 9mm carbine so I don't own either one.

i've never fired teh Hi-Point, but i really dig my little Sub-2000. its just so much dang fun to shoot! i can fold it up, throw it in my backpack and go hiking with it. put it in a briefcase, your center console in your vehicle (if big enough) under your car seat, in the nightstand drawer, and on the top shelf in your gun safe. its dirt simple to take apart and clean. just fold it in half to clean the bore. no need to remove it. you just need a 9mm shell casing to take it apart. one big pin in the back holds it all together. push it out and everything slides out the back end and thats it. after a return trip to Kel-Tec to fix a bad mag catch, its as reliable as a hammer. did i mention that its fun to shoot? at 50 feet (max distance at the local indoor range) you can put ten rounds into a 1 inch ragged hole. the charging handle gets pulled back and to the side to hold it open, insert mag, and then you gat to do this kind of pseudo-"HK Slap" to close it. very wanna-be tactical, but kind of cool at the same time.

don't get the Glock mag version. pre-ban mags are waaaay too expensive compared to the Beretta and Smith mags. i wish i would have looked at mag prices before i chose. oh well, its still fun. for $289 i feel like i got a great deal on a fun gun. not to mention that Kel-Tec's warranty and customer service is top notch.
