1stmarine,
Thank you for the excellent instructions & detail. The Mods should make it a sticky (if possible)

Thanks. I don't know if they are excellent but if anyone has any questions just give me a shout. I think that with the mount you have you can use the Burris and the iron sights alternatively right? So I though that you could try a one shot zero and have the iron sights zeroed at the same time.
You will need the sight tool or a very small screwdriver though.

Cheers,
E.

Another fellow member and I we have been looking at an alternative for the Burris using a Redfield 2-7x33.
It makes sense as it also has very small footpring, it is light and goes well with
the whole keltec concept. Bullet comp to 400 yards also built in.
Two nice American Made products working together in perfect harmony.

Hey thanks for the write up on this gun. I was looking at getting a second AR, but I might just consider looking at one of these. It looks like a good "Jack of all Trades" type of gun. It also looks like a handly little utility rifle.:)

I have to find yet someone that had bad experiences with the SU16.
I heard some minor cosmetic issues and even that Keltec is responding swiftly and with great customer care. That is what it matters here. And all made in America.
It shoots like a decent AR and reliable like an AK plus it provides some innovative, cool and unique features.

burris X2 magnification both eyes open, no problem to put a clear picture and the bullet where it belongs.
I like this little scope a lot due to clarity, fast acquisition and small footprint...

1stmarine,
Do I need remove scopes for take-down. My camera isn't too good indoors but here they are now scoped.

TIA

Hi,
Beautiful rigs!!!
You do not need to take down anything. After the scope is zeroed and nicely tighten you are done. That would be a pain in the neck and potentially loose zero. Just put the rifle over an old towel and take it down as usual. The stock unfolds downward and then you turn the gas piston everything comes out. Just cover the scope with a rug or scope cover if you have one. Nothing else.

Do a full clean and inspection in the carbine before you start barking in and then During the brake in run a patch down the barrel every shot for the first box and then after 2-3 shots, increase shots between cleanings and go slowly. The keltec will reward you with years of accuracy, reliability and enjoyment.

Expect failures during the first few boxes as the parts brake in and adapt to each other. Then you will not see failures ever again.

Cheers,
E.

Here is a picture of the Keltec with 3 functional sighting systems, very light and versatile in deed....
A) Burris 2x7 long eye relive with bullet drop comp.
B) T1 2MOA red dot at 1 o'clock.
C) Bravo sights still work fine.

I am a veteran navy infantry marksman and I know rifles.

That is hilarious! Are you sure you aren't an airman scuba diver artilleryman too?

The navy doesn't have infantry, and I've never met a marine that acknowledged anything but the most vague connection with the navy, and then only grudgingly.

I like the keltec SU 16 and keltec products in general, but it is not as durable or reliable as an AK and your exaggeration of the AR is grossly pessimistic in a way that is usually only seen from POGs and civilians whose greatest exposure to M16s has been though reading the internet.

ISC,
Marines deeply rooted in the Navy they are. Master yoda says. Read some books or get informed and come back.
I have another Keltec and submitted there to lots of torture testing myself so I can tell you they work as advertised and much more. You will have a hard time finding anyone saying anything bad even when totally neglected they always work.

By the way when I mean small foot print I mean the timberline 2x7 is 9.5 inches long and only 11oz. The optics are great for that kind of package.
Very effective little package in deed.

If I may add some input, I fired an SU16-C yesterday. It felt solid to me. The foregrip was solid. The folding stock was solid. The sights were good. At 100 yards, it grouped as well as the MAK-90 I shot. And I shot the SU standing, just because it felt good. Nice and light. I didn't need, or want, a bench. It makes a great plinker. Very much a pleasure to shoot. We did have some problems with FTF and FTE. It could have been the PMC ammo, or the factory mags. Maybe the break-in blues. We will take it back with different ammo and see if the problem continues.

Great systems, aren't they?
Brake in is a must. Expect stoppages for the first 100-200 rounds. It is in the manual. Then will never fail again. It swallows everything you feed.

I was sending this to a friend and thought posting it here.

This would be my letter to Keltec 'Santa' if there was one:

Every day I am more convinced that keltec should make a carbine that will allow AR15 light barrels to be used with their SU piston and recievers and also provide the bolt heads or a carrier adapted for the 6.8 and grendel.

Even w/o the bolt one that I would do right away the Whisper, 6x45, 25-223, 204, etc... Amazing hunting options those would be, light and deadly. They could sell their standard version with light barrels and then other size gas blocks and pistons so the folks could build their legos.

If I was the boss there this would be already done. They might have thought about this. who knows. ???

Cheers,
E.

Here is my SU-16

Here is my pride and joy. The scope is a cheap wal mart red dot scope. It works very well. I was not sure what type of sight system I wanted so I bought that as a tester. It is going to end up staying on there because it works so well. I like how flush it sits on the receiver.

ArmySniper: That is nice. I may not have all those "evil" features on mine ya know. That stock, grip and flash hider all make it too efficient a tool for us to use in our enlightened State (CA). So, I have a CA model!

I was thinking about getting another one for my son when he turns 18. He is happy shooting my stuff for now!

TANJ! (There Ain't No Justice)

Is that a standard M-16 A2 flash hider?

One of the weird things here is I can use my pre-ban normal capacity magazines in a CA model Keltec; or even rebuild them and increase the capacity. However, if I were use a normal capacity mag in a 'fixed magazine' rifle that has a bullet button release, I would have manufactured an assualt rifle.

The weather is nice today though....

I got the link to the suggestions box so I am going to send the wish list above to Keltec. They are actually listening to what people want to do and that is one of the several reasons they are so innovative.

IF you guys have any recommendations send them or send these again and any other recommendations...

I have seven keltec products and if they had something like the above I will have another seven or more of those alone.

keep'em coming!

Armysniper,
Nice looking SU you got there!!. Hey, one question, I always wonder if you fold with that grip where it ends up? Where it stops?
I know the folding is not as intended anyore but I was wondering where the grip actually lands.
Please let me know if you don't mind.

cheers.
E.

Yes that is a standard Ar flash hider. It screwed right on the existing factory threads. I did not even need to use a crush washer for proper alignment. I have read elsewhere that sometimes you need to use a crush washer to get the proper alignment of the hider. Just about any muzzle brake or flash hider for AR's will fit on the SU 16. For under 20 bucks it adds great performance to the rifle. And looks cool too.
