Couple questions

1, Why did Blue Sky stop importing them? Rumor has it someone in the gov got pissy about selling property that had been loan / leased from .gov to .korea. This sounds somewhat reasonable to me but since it came off the interwebnet could well be bull.

2. If point 1 is true how is it they will be able to be imported once President Trump gets into office. I know some legislation was passed to allow it that Dear Leader Obamma is blocking.

President Obummer stopped the return of the Korean M1's , really screwed the CMP . Also stopped the sale of thousands of GI 45's .

This has been covered ad nauseam on here, the CMP did not get screwed. This rumor persists thanks to many who don't understand the issue or what the CMP does. They were not going to get the rifles, ever. If the rifles ever make it here, they will be sold by the importers, not the CMP.

Senator John McCain screwed us on the 1911s.

.

As I understand it, the 1911's could be turned over by the Army as the law allowing it passed. However, it requires the General of the Army to okay it which isn't likely to happen unless the new administration pushes the issue.

I hadn't heard that McCain was involved. Maybe something new I didn't hear about.

Also, what Acera said is the last I heard also. The M1 Garands and Carbines in Korea were to be imported commercially, not given to the CMP. I also heard people say they weren't in such good condition, but that might not be an issue.

2017 ndaa conference report deleted mccain's scrap 1911 amendment. 2016 ndaa gave statutory power to the sec of army to transfer up to 10000 1911's per year if the Secretary wants. House tried to remove number limits and mandate turnover which also did not pass. Result status quo. Pres. probably will sign bill. So decision rests with new sec of army whoever that may be.

Conference report of ndaa 2017 passed house by veto proof Maj. and expected to pass Senate with large Maj. No further amendments are allowed at this stage.

Ok so nobody know why Blue Sky stopped importing - check
We're running down some rabbit hole in 1911's that I never mentioned. Come on men focus .....

Will we get a new Sec. of the Army with a new administration? I was under the assumption that the current and previous law allowed for the 1911's to be transferred if the Secretary of the Army chose to do so. It's no surprise the current secretary is under no hurry to release any guns to the public.

I also believe the law required that the CMP get an FFL so they could transfer the handguns to other FFL's. I wonder how that process is going.

Obama had nothing to do with Blue Sky's demise. I believe the company went out of existence over 25 years ago. Blue Sky was created in 1985 by Rene Carlos Vos, former congressman John Murphy and Wayne LaPierre for the sole purpose of importing a block of 200,000 rifles from South Korea. They then had to lobby Congress to change the law to allow surplus military weapons to be imported back into the US. There were lots of accusations of bribery at the time. Once the 200,000 rifles were imported the company went out of business. Ignoring the article's slant, here is an interesting history of Blue Sky.

Yes, Blue Sky was 1980s. Import companies come and go for various reasons. Whats been posted makes sense, they had a contract for a certain number of guns, then they were done.

Some of the blue Sky guns were in excellent condition, though most were pretty well worn. I had one that looked like a brand new arsenal rebuild, another one was pretty well used with a rough bore, but still shot OK once the sloppy loose stock bedding was corrected. Ive traded off some nice stuff over the years, you always think there will be more around for the same money,.....

There is no need for CMP to get a FFL. Their charter allows them to sell long guns shipped directly to non licensed persons. Congress only has to amend their charter to allow them to sell handguns the same way.

There is no problem as it is for CMP to ship to FFLS. NJ requires all firearms transactions to be ftf. They made a stink about this with CMP a few years ago. Since then a CMP rifle sold to a NJ resident gets shipped from CMP to a NJ FFL for a ftf transfer.
